I was wondering if you guys think that cutting back on preseason games would be a good thing? I think that maybe cutting it to 2 or 3 and adding to the reg season schedule would be the way to go. I know the teams don't want to lose the revenue from the games but they wouldn't lose too much if the fans wanting the extra games instead of the preseason. It's hard to go to a preseason game when starters only play a quarter or two. Yes I know that this is the time to look at rookies and free agents. Have the team become a unit. But to me all it does is make it harder to wait for the reg season to start. I also understand that extending the season would be rough on the players as well and keeping player healthy. But in time the teams would figure out a way to stay fresh and keep players ready for the end of the season. Maybe take the rosters up to 65. I know that this gets talked about every yr. But I havent asked the True Dolphins fans how they feel.:dolphins:

If you added two games to the regular season, how would teams possibly make it through without an absurd amount of injuries? Starters don't play that much in the preseason yet some still get seriously hurt, imagine how many more of them will go down before the playoffs if you ask them to play two more full games. Enlarging the roster would help some (although it would cause the salary cap and labor negotiations to be re-worked) but if a starter gets injured you still have a scrub behind him no matter how large the roster is, plus an insane amount of guys would be inactive every week. Plus you would have teams that settle their divisions over a month before the season ends and we would end up with preseason like games during the regular season. All in all I think 16 games is the optimum length and don't want anything changed, if coaches donb't want players injured than they can play their scrubs.

What people dont remember is that preseason is for the guys batteling to make the team. So cutting the preseason to 2 or 3 games would not allow the players that pre season was made for to actually play nor would it allow proper time for the regulars to get their practice in. Sure every one has accidents liek Portis did. But cutting the games down will not allow batteling players proper time to desplay nor would it allow the regulars to get the rust of the off season out of their system. I think 4 games is just right for a pre season schedule.

I like the games as they are. For sure starters don't need to play, it's more for back-ups to gain experience, and newcomers to get acquined with on-field experience. Plus, you can't simulate in game-situation/timing between a QB and his WR's withought a pre-season game, no matter how hard you may try in practice.

I think the first preseason game should be earlier, maybe late july and then the first regular game can be in late August. Its so ridick now that the super Bowl is in February.

Saban said he thought it was just right and used Ronnie as an example. He said when Ronnie had the equivelent of the full training camp he busted loose and that told him it was a good number. I think it is good also. Lets the vets work into things while allowing a reasonable chance to evauluate talent and combinations.

I just wrote this in another thread. I think they should cut the preseason in half and add two more games to the regular season. They could also add another bye week to help keep bodies fresh so injuries stay down. Recuperation goes a long way towards health, but as is perfectly evident from the fact that some injuries occur (Portis) in the very first preseason game when bodies are the freshest, there is no way to eliminate them. Players take chances every time they get on the field, why not make those chances count by playing in games that count for something? I would love for the season to be another month long

i really dont think so because that gives the rooks and the players to be able to experience the game even if they lose without being in the spotligh right away

u cant blame the nfl blame the coach..... preseason is a time for players to make the team. starters should not play in the preaseason. and if the coach plays a starting rb and he gets hurt too bad. not nfls fault it is the coaching staff.

It use to be 6 pre-season games back when they had a 14 game season....the owners are not going to shorten preseason as long as ticket buyers are forced to pay for preseason games.

:rolleyes2

It's the owners. They want to sell the tickets to the season ticket holders. It is revenue generating, so for this to change, it will have to be from them.

I would like to see teams agree to one or two preseason games played without bonafide starters, just entirely rookies and scrubs (might have to carry more guys on the roster in August to make this possible, like 100). This way teams minimize risk to their starting unit and coaches and fans get a really solid look at the guys trying to make it.
