Looking for a dolphins statistics master to answer this question:

Is there any correlation between our preseason record and our regular season record?

From what I remember, it always seems like whenever we have a great preseason we end up having a less than promising regular season and some of our better years I remember suffering through horrible preasons.

So does anyone have the statistics to prove or disprove this?

Your looking to much into it. The past is the past and has nothing to do with how this team will do.

yeah the colts are 0-3. The ravens are 0-2. I guess we are just as good as them. Oh well guess we just hafta deal with that.

seriously, some of these coaches coem in w/o game plans, get their teams to play tough and have a close game and loose and they save everything for the season or they disguise it well, i think its similar with us....lol i mean cmon the bills are 2-0:goof:

We will be just fine, I will continue to say that. We will be 10-6, GO PHINS.

Keep saying that even if we don't live up to your expectations... It won't mean we don't suck.

Well it was more of a curiosity thing...whichever way the stats pan out, I wasn't planning on it making or ruining my day! I just remember one year in particluar that we came out and won all our preseason games, looking good and everybody all pumped up on the season's prospects and WHAM! we tanked that year.

Coaches approach the preseason differently. Some want to establish a winning pattern, whereas others want to put certain players into certain situations to see how they respond.
Against the Bears and Steelers our offense lined up in a base offense, and both the Bears and Steelers blitzed early and often.
You have to game plan when you are playing against a defense like that because with the base offense you don't have maximum protection and there aren't any blitz breakoffs from the receivers. Therefore, there is the potential to look really bad (which has happened).

As I said in another thread...
The panthers went undefeated in the preseason the past two years. One of those years took them to a Super Bowl, the other.... well, they weren't even a .500 team. You tell me if there's a clear pattern.

Was reading these stats in the Indianapolis Star coming home from our trip to a wedding in Chicago.:D

"Six teams over the past two seasons started the preseason 0-3. None finished with a winning record:eek: And only Arizona in 04 finished higher than last place in their division"

Ariz0-4-------------6-10
Atlanta 0-3-----------5-11
Houston 0-3----------5-11
Clevland 0-3----------5-11
Giants 0-4------------4-12
Niners 0-4------------2-14

Doesn't mean squat, but it makes you worry a little:(

NFL FACT: No team has ever won all their pre-seasons games, and won the superbowl in the same year.

The patriots also lost a lot of pre-season games last year, and look where it got them.

before last year, we hadn't "tanked" since 1988.

so which year exactly were you referring to?

Miami Preseason finishes....

2005 0 W, 3 L ??
2004 2 W, 2 L Record 4-12
2003 2 W, 2 L Record 10-6
2002 2 W, 2 L Record 9-7
2001 1 W, 3 L Record 11-5
2000 3 W, 1 L Record 11-5

and thats as far back as i can easily find information. the preseason is not a great indicator, but it shows some sort of trends. in 2001 we lost 2 of the 3 preseason games by 3 or less points.... so its not a true indicator. The 3 losses we've had this preseason were all geniune spankings. (with exception of the bears game, which was closER, but still a spanking.)

The high scoring Indianapolis Colts are also 0-3 in preseason. Might that mean they'll not make the playoffs? Not likely. Just some teams game plan for these games, while others do not.
