Prisco's AFCE preview

I hate to say it, but I think he is right on alot of points. However, I will not 'give' the division to the Pats yet, but they ARE the team to beat.

Right now, they have less questions than the Dolphins do. They have more continuity. They are more proven. But the season is long and alot can happen...

Again, I am not saying that Dolphins have no chance... they have alot of chances but right now, they have to go out and prove it.

I believe...

I thought all the sports writers had picked Miami to win the east? Guess one guy can still see the trees though the forrest. :D

What is with you Pats fans and whining about having no repect? I hate the team but I respect them, and everyone on ESPN loves the Pats.

Yeah, that's the theory from ThePats... :rolleyes2

No thats the argument I've heard here from fins fans all across this board.

NE is ripe for the picking
every sports publisher is picking the dolphins to winthe east.
Its a lock for us (Miami) to win the east
NE is on the downslide
We have more talent
yada yada yada

Need I go look for one from you too? I'm sure there is one out there.

Well, they didn't even pick Miami to make the playoffs on ESPN. Only Merrill Hoge and John Clayton think we are dangerous.

The "no respect" thing is the Patriots whole thing anyway. They get to the freaking SB/playoffs and Tom Brady is talking about how nobody is giving them any respect and overlooked the team, etc. etc.

It's not true, but they say it because it's what works to get them fired up.

Well, it didn't work last year, but it's the NFL. Nothing is certain.

NE is ripe for the picking

This is a better year than any before it; a lot of new players, issues at LB and WR. They may not be the "ripest" a team could be, but riper than previous seasons.

every sports publisher is picking the dolphins to winthe east.

The site is called Finheaven. It's only partially true when we say that all the sports journalists are picking us, but you'll also find threads where some of us fly off the handle because we *weren't* picked. It irks you just the same when one reporter picks us and not the Pats to win the East, so you're not really any different.

There are just as many analysts picking New England to win instead of Miami. Probably more. A lot of the pro-Miami articles say the Dolphins are on the rise, but very few of them choose us to be a clear winner. Of course, you see these ones the most if you base your evidence off what you see on a website called FINHEAVEN :)

Its a lock for us (Miami) to win the east

You neglect to mention that some of us say the division still belongs to the Pats until we take it from them. You look at enough threads to know this to be true. Pats fans are the same; some claim division champions once again, and some wait to see how the season plays out with Miami on the rise.

NE is on the downslide

It looks that way. Can Belichick work serious magic? Oh yeah. But if the players don't possess the magic and talent themselves, there's only so much that can be done.

The reporters you mention that NE is on the downslide is because the NFL is a copycat league; what NE has done to win 3 rings in the last 5 years has been copied, analyzed, torn apart and put back together by all the other teams. It's parity; Belichick and co. have to work even harder to keep the scales he tipped from balancing out again...the problem is you can only work so hard before peaking and diminishing returns occurs.

We have more talent

This shouldn't bother you. They said the same thing about all 3 NFC teams that the Patriots beat in the Super Bowl, right? So if we do have more talent like everyone says, why be worried about it? It's still only conjecture.

yada yada yada

I agree. Much ado about nothing.

I thought it was an okay article, especially considering the source. I did have a pretty good chuckle at this statement though. In listing off the reasons why the Dolphins wouldn't overtake the Pats this year Prisco goes on to say:

The Dolphins will be an improved team, which is why many think they're ready to push the Patriots. But they have too many issues; the offensive line is so-so, the second-receiver spot isn't great

It doesn't sound totally ridiculous until you take into account what the Patriots recieving core looks like. Reche Caldwell could legitimately be their best WR if the Branch saga continues.

I just thought that was priceless..

Well if you continue on to where they name the WR's NE had on the team those years we won the SB it kind of puts it into perspective. Ever heard of Freddie Colman before 01? Yet he was good enough to help the team to its first SB win. How about Jermaine Wiggins...wasn't exaclty on everyones draft sheet that year either. JR Redmon, David Patten or how about Antowain Smith how are those for virutal unknowns that flew under the radar. Who's to sit here and say that Caldwell can't be the next american idol? With Brady at the wheel spreading the ball around who's in the first spot isn't as important as the other 7 or 8 spots because they will all get their throws and nobody spreads it around like NE does. Its much easier to focus on a #1 guy and eliminate him from the game plan and if you have nothing behind him your in trouble but try taking out 5,6, or 7 guys.

Or he could be another David Terrell. Of course Reche Caldwell could be good, anything is possible but there's a better chance he'll suck.

Regardless, if your Prisco don't knock Marty Booker and Derek Hagan when the team you predicted to win the division has Reche Caldwell and Bam Childress as their 1 and 2.

Last I checked, I'm not a sports writer, so what I believe has no bearing on the argument... :D

Once again the 3 Time defending AFC East champions, the New England Patriots get no respect by anybody. Suddenly everyone thinks the "Fins" are the AFC East champs and people wont hesitate to crown them the champs before the season starts. Keep talking all you want, the Pats will use this to drive themselves to another AFC East title.

What planet have you been on? 1/4 of all the analysts out there will say the Patriots, 3/4 of them will say the Dolphins.
