At training camp, there is always a battle at some positions. What position battles do you see? Here's what I predict.
Quarterback - If we land Brees, Frerotte is let go, and we don't draft a QB, I do not see any battle. The QB's, from first string to third, will be Brees, Lemon, and Berlin. Maybe there will be a battle between Lemon and Berlin with loser being third string, but that's about it.
But if we do draft a QB and we keep Frerotte -
2nd String-
Cleo Lemon vs. Draft Pick. (Projected winner: Lemon) Sorry Berlin. I like you, but you're the odd man out.
Running Backs - If Ricky Williams (God forbid) is suspended, I still don't see the end of the R&R Era. It will just be the R&_
1b String -
Sammy Morris vs. Kay-Jay Harris (Projected Winner: It depends. Does Sammy Morris stay at FB or TB?)
Safety - Tebucky Jones, gone. Lance Schulters, might be gone. The only safeties we have left (for sure) are Norman Lejeune, Travares Tillman, Yeremiah Bell, Jack Hunt, and Sideeq Shabazz. I see Yeremiah Bell and Travares Tillman as the projected starters, but if there is a draft pick, all three of them will be in battle.
1st Stringers -
Yeremiah Bell vs. Travares Tillman vs. Draft Pick.
2nd String -
Sideeq Shabazz vs. Norman LeJeune vs. Jack Hunt.
Cornerbacks - Oh Lord. Reggie Howard is gone. Sam Madison is also gone. The only sure starter is Travis Daniels, and possibly Will Poole barring a draft pick. But since we usually keep six cornerbacks, we pretty much have a free for all. And that doesn't even include the annual Undrafted Free Agents.
