Reviewed the game today in NFL GameRewind -- and I have to give props to someone that no one seems to be mentioning: Mike Wallace.

For Fantasy Football guys (and people who only understand the game via Fantasy Football and Madden), Wallace had a relatively quit game. But when you go back and watch the game, on many key plays, Wallace is the one who drew coverage away from Clay and others. Steelers were NOT gonna let Wallace win the game. On key plays like the first TD to Clay and third down and redzone plays, Wallace virtually guaranteed single or loose coverage for Clay. Pretty cool.

Really makes a difference, having a weapon like Wallace on the team, even if he's not filling up the stat sheet that particular game, he's making it possible for others to make plays. Now, if we had true gamebreakers in those other slots -- wow! Look out. Explosive offense time.

As it is, Mike Wallace is making this team better, even on one of his "off" days.

That, my friends, is the definition of a difference maker. A playmaker threat every time he steps on the field.

Well, I'll say this:

On the first Clay touchdown, I think even Fouts pointed it out, literally the entire Steelers defense rolled on top of Mike Wallace. There were like five guys covering him. Clay was ten yards open. So, yeah.

He's been doing that all year... His impact has been huge even if he isn't putting up huge numbers every game. Gibson, Clay, Matthews, and Hartline all say "thanks buddy"

That's right. Gibson was benefiting greatly. And maximizing his skills in the slot. Pleasantly surprised -- I didn't see him as much improvement on Bess, but he was.

Funny you say that now but this is his entire season. Early in the year when no ball was thrown to him everybody here was bitching about Wallace and that he gets too much money. Myself and others noted that he consistently draws double coverage and that is worth half the money.
Now suddenly people start coming out of the woodworks like this is something new.

He's been a factor in this manner the whole season. He's getting better every week, he and Thill will start connecting. I think he has a big game against NE

I said it before. Just haven't said it recently -- Mike had a little less effect for a few games, clearly nicked up physically. But it's a very real game effect and yesterday was pretty obvious when you go back and look.

Will happen again this week against NE. Belichick will make someone else beat them. Wallace will be doubled most of the day Sunday. Look for Mathews and Clay to have the big days, possibly D. Thomas if Sherman sticks to the run.

Someone making his salary should do what's stated here and produce.

Hasnt even had a full year with the QB and system. Give him time. This offense will be top 10 next year and perennial top 5 every year after. Patience my brother!

Even yardage wise Wallace is having a pretty good year. He's obviously not putting up megatron numbers BUT, let's take Calvin's numbers for example. 75 catches for 1348 yards. Next closest group is Durham, bush, and bell all with right around 430-470 yards a piece. Mike Wallace, 58 catches for 762 yards and he's not even leading the team. Hartline is at 855, clay is at 678 and the combination of Gibson and Matthews (in essence the same player because Gibson would essentially have Matthews numbers if it weren't for the injury) has another 643. So thats 4 wideouts/tight ends with atleast 600 yards, I would say even though Wallace isn't putting up gigantic numbers for a number 1, he is doing his part in helping the overall offense net more yardage that any of the top tier wideouts.

not denying the impact he has as far as backing off the secondary and forcing them to account for him over the top, but **** me go up high point the ball and try and make a play on that underthrown deep ball, you should be used to those by now, and throw your damn body in the way on the long run so he can get in the endzone.

Magic, your hitting the nail on the head brother. This is the Green Bay system. No stars but eveyone contributes and accumulates through the system. Until someone keeps doing it in the system and eventually puts up 1500 yds.

This Mike Wallace being overpaid is rediculous. He got paid what anyone else who had a chance to get him would have paid. He takes out there best CB. He stretches the field regardless if he catches long balls or not. I like Mike's personality too. He fits with that mentality. Fans complain, but the team does not. They keep plugging and the open guy gets the ball based on how the defense is playing. When they play Mike back, he starts getting the ball. Same with anyone else.

The thought I had yesterday is that I believe Tannehill has to throw more of a line drive to Mike and not arc it so much.

Marino threw a more line drive type ball so that the ball gets there quicker while he has two steps on him so the receiver doesnt have to fight for the ball. its just there at just the right time.

You're neglecting to consider Wallace's production as a function of how much he's targeted, which is a measure of his efficiency in the passing game. Right now he's averaging 7 yards per target, which is 55th in the league among wide receivers.

Often times the comparison here is made with the Green Bay offense Philbin and company are likely trying to emulate. Right now Green Bay has three wide receivers in the top 21 in the league in yards per target.

Compare that also with Charles Clay, who is 13th in the league among tight ends.
