Proven Data Reveal This NFL Quarterback Was A Top Ten 2021 Quarterback After All

I’m sure this will get everyone in a tizzy again. Get ready and pick your sides….😂

There are enough negative Nancies who post here to attack your post so I will just sit back and watch this unfold. This will be enough entertainment to last at least until Sunday. 😂

Otherwise, a great post. Thanks.

Ever since we drafted Tua, I've said the same thing: if we can keep him healthy, Tua has it in him to be a Drew Brees style QB... and not just because they are almost identical in size.
Tua (and Drew) win with incredible dedication... and their heads.
Smart super-accurate QBs without a gun.

Keep Tua upright and he'll win lots of games.

Expect him to shrug off pass-rushers like a 6'5" guy can and then muscle a throw into double coverage? That ain't gonna happen.

Ask him to run boots and move around in the pocket to gain time and the proper angles? Sure.
Run as part of the offense like Allen?
**** no.

We have to continue to build an above-average oline, it's a must. if that happens, we'll be fine...better than fine IMO. Until that happens, we'll have jailbreaks on those critical thirds and whatever. We'll be as good as our oline, bank on it.

Nothing in these stats reveal Tua was a top 10 QB last season in the NFL... What some of these stats do is draw a picture of why he wasnt and how an offense could be designed in order to make him a top 5 QB...

I could use exactly 2 of those stats to explain the level of difficulty Tua had to face last year...

Time to throw/aggressive % (BTW AGG% has nothing to do with being aggressive downfield, its about the pct of throws where a defender is within 1 yard of the target)

Long story short... Tua had the least amount of time to throw the ball and was throwing into tight windows more often than any other QB in the league... And while Im not sure this particular stat was covered in the article, Tua's receiving options were also bottom 3 in the league at yards after the catch.

What does this all mean...? Well the goal in football is to gain yards until you get points. Your receivers having the least amount of time to get yards before they get a ball thrown to them + the highest % of hard throws in the NFL + the inability to gain yards after the actual catch = ???

It equals a suicide mission.

The fact Tua was "just" average in that offense isnt something you should worry about, its just his floor... This season, we get to find out about his actual ceiling, which is what really matters.

I'd agree those stats don't show he's a top 10 QB in 2021...there were too many mitigating factors for it to be 100% true on an overall, season performance level.

But what it DOES show, is that he's doing almost everything possible, within his power and duties, right. I don't care who you put behind that line with those targets...they're not going to be elite overall. Just look at the Chiefs and Mahomes in the Super Bowl a few years back. Ya TB had a great DL, but they weren't THAT good. They demolished that OL, repeatedly. We know what that looks like...all too well.

With the amount of obvious improvements he's made to his strength and confidence this off-season, coupled with expected improvement on the line (don't expect top 10, but a noticeable jump from 32nd by a mile), our offensive production should sky-rocket compared to 2021. He is tops in the league in some very crucial categories. As long as he's consistent, watch out.

What's wrong with this QB then?
Enquiring minds want to know. - LOL
Not much, IMO. Could improve his arm-strength some more (would be nice, but he's strong enough for the NFL)...do better in bad weather games (HUGE)...and he fumbled too much last year (9 fumbles and only 20 sacks)...but those are my only complaints.

He has less warts than many starting QBs IMO.

Statistically Ranked First

RPO- Tagovailoa was the best RPO quarterback in the NFL in 2021. He had 847 RPO passing yards in 2021. That led the NFL, even though he didn’t lead in RPO attempts. He was third with 90 RPO passing attempts. The run-pass option was a scheme that fits Tagovailoa’s strengths. That is one of Tagovailoa’s strengths that transferred from college to the NFL.

-- Put that in your pocket and forget about it. He's the master at that scheme.

Red Zone- Tagovailoa was the best red zone quarterback in the NFL in 2021. Tagovailoa had the best completion percentage in the red zone of any starting quarterback in the NFL in 2021. That completion percentage was 65.4%, which is a testament of his accuracy.

-- With the arsenal of weapons he had to work with, that's pretty impressive.

Clean Pocket Completion Percentage-When Tagovailoa had a clean pocket, he was the best quarterback in the NFL. He had the highest completion percentage among any NFL starting quarterback in the NFL when he had a clean pocket. Tagovailoa’s NFL leading clean pocket completion percentage was 76.3%. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes was second and third.

-- Would like him to rank at the top with a dirty pocket as well, but I'll take it. The best completion % in any category is good.

Least Amount of Pocket Time- Even though this statistic is a reflection of the offensive line, it is a quarterback stat. According to Pro Football Reference’s Advanced Passing Stats, among currently active quarterbacks, Tua Tagovailoa had the least amount of pocket time in the NFL in 2021. According to Pro Football Reference’s definition, pocket time is the average amount of time a quarterback has to throw the ball from the snap before pressure collapses the pocket. Tagovailoa’s pocket time was 2.1 seconds. The pocket time is another stat that proves how elite Tagovailoa can be with his accuracy despite the circumstances.

-- Inexcusable...and McD agrees.

Aggressive Attempts- Among all starting NFL quarterbacks, Tagovailoa led the NFL in having the most aggressive attempts. Those attempts were throws that are in tight coverage. Among his 388 passing attempts, he led the NFL with 19.3% of those passes being aggressive attempts.

-- Don't lose an ounce of that aggressiveness! Last year, it was out of necessity, this year he should have more room to operate with the targets, but it's good to know he shines when it's a tough throw.

Least Number of Batted Passes- Among all NFL starting quarterbacks in 2021, Tagovailoa had the least number of passes batted away. Out of 388 passing attempts, Tagovailoa had only one batted pass. No other NFL starting quarterback had that least number of batted passes in the NFL.

-- Don't know how to explain this one...he's shorter than average for QBs, had a trash line, and no run game to worry about. I guess the DL were too busy beating the **** out of our OL?

Number of Sacks- Out of all starting quarterback that started 10 or more games in 2021, Tagovailoa had the least number of sacks with 20.

-- Probably wouldn't have had the least amount of sacks if he'd played the whole season, but he did show he's a marked improvement over Tannehill in that area.

Goal Line Passer Rating- Tagovailoa was tied with three other quarterbacks with five or more passing attempts that had the highest passer rating on the goal line at 118.8.

-- Clutch gene alert!!!

Goal Line Touchdown Percentage- When on the goal line, Tagovailoa was the best in the NFL among quarterbacks with five or more passes. Tagovailoa had the highest touchdown percentage on the goal line with five or more passes at 80%. Out of the five passes Tagovailoa threw on the goal line, four were touchdowns. He threw no interceptions at the goal line.

-- Clutch gene alert, 2nd alarm!!! Small sample size for these two stats, however...but I'll take a 4 out of 5 ratio any day.

Even if his level of play was exactly the same as last year (which I highly doubt, he's improving), this team would do much better with the other improvements they've made to the offense. They'd have went deep into the playoffs last year with this roster and the play he displayed, IMO. We'll just have to see if the defense can maintain, and hope injuries don't derail this season, but I have every faith the offensive will be much better.

I’m sure this will get everyone in a tizzy again. Get ready and pick your sides….😂

He made up stats and then changed the "competition" (NFL, AFC, "out of this many that had that") in order to fit Tua into a "top 10" category.

Example: "Red Zone- Tagovailoa was the best red zone quarterback in the NFL in 2021. Tagovailoa had the best completion percentage in the red zone of any starting quarterback in the NFL in 2021. That completion percentage was 65.4%, which is a testament of his accuracy."

Laughable. What matters in the RED ZONE is touchdowns for which Tua was 17th. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2021/redzone-passing.htm

The entire list is like this. I am amazed he didn't tell us that Tua was the NUMBER ONE quarterback in the AFCE named..... Tua!

Is this satire? It is isn't it?
