NFL rules allow teams to designate players as "Physically Unable to Perform." Once they are designated as such, they are prohibited from practicing with the team. They can, however, rehabilitate and participate in team meetings. If a player begins training camp on the PUP list, they can be moved to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player is not allowed to be placed on the PUP list if they start training camp on the active roster.

What's the limit on the number of players you can place on the PUP list? I am wondering if perhaps, all be it wild speculation on my part, Saban is trying to make room on the roster for more players to evaluate after the first cut deadline hits.

Miami has those roster spots to use while the players are on PUP.

Does that mean my speculation may not be that far fetched, then? I know it's unlikey the reason behind it, but I am just trying to read into this too much. Since, I can't believe Moore may still be injured. Well I can believe it, but I am in denial.

Admittedly, I'm something of a grammar nazi, but I think I've constrained myself quite well on these boards.

However, I think you mean albeit ? Don't get offended.

You sir, are correct. Not offended in the least. Thank you for pointing that out. I thought it didn't look quite right. I actually had it as "al be it" and then whent back and edited it wrong. :D

Miami is actually using 2 of those spots already. Miami has 93 players
with 11 NFLE exempts, so it's a 80 man roster of net 82.

The main reason to do active PUP is they can't be placed there
once camp begins. So if they weren't put there but were limited, you
either carry them injured when the season starts or put them on IR.

A player on active PUP can be moved to reserve PUP and then miss the
1st 6 games of the season. The catch, if a player goes on active
PUP and you take them off it and they get injured, they can not go
on reserve PUP, it's either IR or 53 man roster.

Simply, if there is any chance the player might end up on
reserve PUP you place them on active PUP when camp begins.
Otherwise the only choices you have if they are still injured come
sept. is the 53 man roster or IR.

Thank you for explaining that. I wasn't sure how that worked.

Moore was one of the players wearing the red jersey during OTA's, Chester we know is still coming off his injury slowly, this is not the first time we've seen players on the PUP list, every year we have someone...they just can't practice until medically cleared, it's not that the team doesn't want them, they just can't go full speed yet.

I realize that, I was just trying to put some kind of Saban is a "Mastermind" spin on the whole thing. Forget I mentioned it. I am not thinking clearly tonight. Too much on my mind.
