correct me if im wrong but didnt crowder originaly play olb his first two years. in his first two years he had 84 tackles in 05 and 103 in 06. so Why dont we put him back at his original spot and sign and draft the ilb corp. i know we werent running a 3-4 d but its worth a try. some may disagree but with an aging jt and porter doesnt hurt to try. he was pretty much forced to the inside after zach. i say get dansby and draft mclain and put crowder ont he outside or trade him.:ponder:

Crowder ain't bad where he is. He needs a stud next to him to shine though.

i wouldnt mind if it were mclain and crowder but mclain and dansby would be awsome. crowder in pass protection just makes me sick.

I'd rather have McClain and (by some longshot) Spikes. Least we could send Spikes at the QB every down.

I just don't see Crowder doing the job. His strengths are solely in taking on the block at the POA. There's a reason you say him come up short in coverage. He doesn't have the athleticism to stay with anyone in man or zone coverage. He lacks instincts in this area too. Moving him to OLB won't solve that problem. Crowder also shows no real ability to rush on passing downs. I think putting him on the outside would expose him even more.

Maybe I'm off base here but I'm pretty sure we played the 4-3 when he was at outside thus making it a totally different position then OLB in the 3-4.

That would be correct. OLB in the 3-4 and 4-3 are two completely different positions. Crowder can't rush the passer good enough for 3-4 weak side and isnt big enough and strong enough to play strong side.

That is quite puzzling as Crowder usually did fine in pass "coverage" not protection. Running backs and Tight Ends rarely caught the ball before the deep middle of the field and as you saw in the Texans game, Crowder hasn't been giving up those absurd plays to Tight Ends like Joel Driesen.

it's pretty evident that crowders cons far outweigh his pros.

that being said we did just sign him to an extension, so he really really needs to get better at all phases of the game.

The way Crowder over-runs plays, I think at OLB, he would do even worse there than he does in the middle.. Also, he had Zach right next to himt o teach him and help him read and react, that probably had something to do with the fact he had so many tackles in 2006.

Hmm, I guess having his worst season yet, you still find him to be good. I guess having just 43 tackles 8 assists and his first INT of his career make for a solid ILB..

I know I know, his job isn't to make simple plays like tackles or big plays like sacks, but eventually MIA needs something that resembles ILB play to be good.

Even in Saban's "hybrid" defense, Crowder never played OLB. Bad idea.
