Put yourself in champ Kelly’s position

Hopefully Ross gave him these instructions

1. No trades. The permanent GM will make major roster movements and acquiring draft choices are major roster movements.

2. Your job is maintenance. When players get hurt, bring players up from the practice squad or sign a free agent to fill the roster spot.

3. I will look at your resume as we attempt to fill the full-time position. No guarantees. (i.e. I'm not hiring your ass).
He needs to be able to make trades. Chubb and Phillips are the most obvious, and if they need approval from someone else, fine. If a godfather offer came from Achane or Waddle, you’d have to consider it, but regardless, obvious things like moving the Edges are part of what he should be graded on

You have 5 days to make impressions for this job. You want to be long term gm. You are not going to just sit around and do nothing at trade deadline.

It his only chance to make impression to Ross that he is man for job

My opinion is making trades to just make trades is not smart and won’t get value.

Hopefully he is smart about this doesn’t just make trades to show Ross they he got him some assets for draft and deserves job

Phillips Chubb Douglas wright I am okay with. But I would not move waddle or achane now. I know others disagree

But this this very interesting just from human nature standpoint. You basically got the trade deadline to make impression and that’s it. Human nature would lead to many people trying to make impression and not sit in office doing nothing. Just don’t be desperate is my advice to him. The other gms are sharks swimming around the dolphins roster. Hope Kelly is smart about this

I disagree. If no teams were interested in a Fins player, getting a deal done this quickly is nearly impossible. If a deal were 'almost' done, Champ would get little credit. And if Champ were told 'no deals,' the discussion is over. I don't think the 'trade' discussion is relevant. Champ was given his boundaries when he took the job. No one knows what they are.
Here is what is reasonable. Champ was told he would be 'one of the candidates' for the permanent GM job. He may get it. Ross doesn't think like FH and may have a comfort level with Champ. I know nothing about Champ except what I've read here. OTOH, Ross may want a GM with a better hx of success. I have no idea, but I doubt Champ's future depends on trades this late in the process.

i would hope they have some oversight of what he does. i am not into meddling by ownership, but this is a special situation

I would agree if you had included "not making bad trades just to be making trades".

I mean, isn't that what has led us to this situation? - LOL

Logical Contradiction Alert"

1) "i am not into meddling by ownership,"
2) "but this is a special situation"

Come on, these "exceptions to the rule", conflicting comments means the rule is not that good to begin with and that there is very little consistency in your post.

There's going to be nothing that Champ Kelly can do in the next five days to win this job. Also, is he really a guy that we want as a serious contender for the job? His experience the last decade is the Bears, Raiders and Dolphins
Hell, no. He needs to be gone too.

I dont want him doing a damn thing other than kissing babies and shaking hands.

My biggest interest right now is "what are the things our "temporary" GM will be graded on.

I anticipate that any actions or even some non-actions our new GM takes will be under the Ross microscope. I think the most basic attribute will be better & more consistent competitive team performance. If the action he takes makes improvements in the teams' overall performance, then he will have a hand up in getting the GM position permanently.

On the other hand, by avoiding poor choices he may also improve his chances at becoming our permanent GM. These would be much more difficult to decern by Mr. Ross.

It will be interesting to see what the new GM does in his temporary role. I would anticipate any changes he makes will be shorter term changes that yield immediate results as opposed to massive changes that would take two or three years to yield results. That would allow him to make long-term changes after he gets the GM position.

What will be unseen to us is the development of a long-range plan, based on what the temporary GM presents changes he wants to make at this point in time to Mr. Ross.

To each their own, but I'd rather have the permanent guy in there making those trades in the offseason. I'm not worried about the Godfather offers coming in. I'm worried about the chump trades that Champ could agree to - i.e. Dolphins trade Phillips for a 6th rounder and a ham sandwich.

Phillips and Chubb need moved now to contenders looking for a pass rush. The offseason doesn’t offer value for that and the contracts change

I don’t want Kelly doing much. But my point was human nature is that he is going to try to put his stamp on team. So moves are coming.
Just hope waddle achane are not moved. Waddle is a guy you want for culture. Achane. I wouldn’t move unless I got two first rounders. Not evening kidding. One fitst rounder is nothing. You still have to replace that player. Achane is one of the top 30 players in league at this point.

Anyone close to or over 30 would be tradable regardless of position. They are not long term options for this teams rebuild. Anyone drafted in the last 3 years should remain unless you get a great offer. Those guys become your journeyman and leaders for the next team 3 years from now.

Understood, if you had competence at the GM position. I don't think that is there with Champ. Just my opinion.

Yeah, but he is the person in the chair and action must be taken in specific cases. He can handle trading Edges for draft picks

Bailey was brought into this organization back in February (my opinion - no facts but observations) as the nuclear option to bridge between CG and the new G.M. Ross created a special position for him to evaluate Grier and provide feedback. He has to bridge this team to the future and be given the ability to make good G.M. choices for the future of the organization. Chubb should be on the block as he will be a salary cap casualty moving forward. There are teams in need of pass rushers such as the Colts who are contenders (which they will get cheap this year and can re-negotiate next years contract). I also think Phillips could be intriguing due to his open contract and ability to sign. It would be nice to keep a few cornerstones in the clubhouse that would be good for leadership such as Fitzpatrick, Seiler, and Waddle. We are stuck with Tua unless (according to Omar) there is a team willing to trade for him. While not being a Tua fan, he is our best option for the remainder of this year and probably next year while the team's foundation gets built through the draft and not expensive broken free agents.!!!!

I don't get people saying Waddle and Achane are okay to trade if we get good compensation. What did we get out of the Tunsil trade? In 2020 with the Texans pick we got we traded down...GB got Love and we took Igbinoghene. 2021 pick from Texans we did some trading down and took Waddle but there was so much talent if we had stayed at 3: Chase, Sewell, Surtain II which was who I wanted. Now instead of having one of the best lineman or arguably the current best CB in the league, there's talk of trading Waddle. The 2nd round pick from that year from Texans was used to take Holland. How about keeping talent instead of always trading it away and then complaining every year that the Fins suck.
