The hope in me says:
Beck
McCown
Henne (if Parcells follows his own council of NOT playing rookies at all)
The realist in me actually believes the same thing. Here's why:
1. Beck has been working his TAIL off this offseason. QB Coach Lee has been impressed, and both Sporano and Lee impressed with his work ethic. Beck has stated that the work to "go over the top" on his throws is actually more comfortable (if you didn't listen to the interview, you'd know about the injury, taping down, and shots after a seperated shoulder his Soph year) going backto that throwing motion. I think the greased ball was more akin to butterflies and a lack of confidence in his line (understandable, in his situation, to me) and I believe lack of preparation overall. To the last point, Beck has also commented that he's gotten more instruction coaching these past months than the entire last season.
2. McCown, its very possible, has never really gotten a solid shot in the NFL. Hence, the forever backup he's been for 6 years. I don't know a lot about him, but he sounds determined. I don't think the FO really wants to look to him as "the answer." I think, that between Beck and Henne, they're hoping they've got their guy. Of course, this will take a couple years IN THE LEAST to figure out, unless Beck wins it and totally blows (which I seriously doubt, as he won't let what happened last year occur ever again).
3. Henne is a great value pick, and will provide great competition. Beck has an upper hand here, though, because he's been working out with the receivers, and his timing will be that much more crisp. They'll be more in sync with each other. I can see Henne competing, but not with much chance of gaining the starting job THIS YEAR. I think the real competition will be next year. Henne will take this year to aclimate (depending on how long he waits to sign on).
All in all, I believe Beck will start this year, post competition, and in the coming years it will be between Beck and Henne. I can't, for the life of me, after a 6 year career, imagine that McCown suddenly becomes "the answer" for Miami. That's why in other posts I've said that even if the competition between McCown and Beck was close, they'd go with Beck. People have seen what McCown can do for 6 years. Beck was thrown to the wolves, and they need to really see for themselves what he can do. If he burns, McCown will be able to step in. It really won't be expected of Henne this year. He'll be really green and wide-eyed. And they'll want to take their time with him.
We'll see what the REAL future brings, but this is what I see, and the future is open.
