PFW reports in its 'Whispers' section that "John Beck is anything but a lock to be the Dolphins’ starting quarterback — even if they pass on Boston College’s Matt Ryan with their top draft pick, which appears increasingly likely to happen, according to one source. The team is high on recently acquired Josh McCown, a passer who the Fins believe was underappreciated in Oakland and Arizona. Nevertheless, McCown won’t keep Miami from jumping at the chance to add a quarterback such as Delaware’s Joe Flacco or Michigan’s Chad Henne in the second round."

Curiously, although they say that the Phins will pass on Matt Ryan, they had him as our pick in their latest mock draft.

I believe that unless McCown totally outplays Beck in the pre-season, Beck will start on week 1, but I also think the team will draft another QB.

there is no way that parcells is gonna start a rookie on day 1 even if they are the #1 overall pick (not gonna draft ryan IMO). I think Beck has the best chance at starting day 1 but McCown could too but we WILL see alot of Beck this year

exactly Zach!! Whoever is drafted at #1 contributes immediately. That means MR is out of the question.

I don't doubt for one minute that there will be a QB competition between Beck and McCown, that's why McCown was brought in. But I can't wait to see people run with this blurb from the "whispers" section of that site and claim that it's proof of Ryan as the #1 or Beck being out of favor with the FO.

Beck supporters have been saying this for a while now, we needed a vet here for backup/competition. That's one way Parcells motivates his players, he brings in competition.

Until one of them proves to the Dolphins that they deserve to start...neither of them are starters. Beck deserves NOTHING...he has to earn it....just like every one else that will be on the roster after the draft.

BP is NOT the couch so quit acting like its his decision who starts its getting old

Because McCown has done sooooooo much in his career to warrent such praise, please!!! He's here for a proven backup just in case of injury and if we draft a QB later in the draft he'd be the only one with some NFL experience.

it will be parcells' decision on who starts. he controls everything including the depth chart. sparano will throw in his two cents but he will ultimately be told who to play. parcells loves veteran qb's so look for mccown to start the season.

McCown has done more than Beck...thats a start. Not saying one is better than the other...both to me are backups...right now...but McCown has 31 game starts..and Beck just 4.

I am very confident that Josh will start the season. He has played for Arizona, Detroit, & Oakland and considering who he has had to play with, he has done really well. In Arizona & Oakland he got his chance to compete for the starting spot and won it. In Detroit when he signed with them he was told there would be a qb competition but before camp Kitna was named the starter. He was so athletic they tried to get him on the field as a WR. If there is a fair competition, meaning the same amount of reps with the 1st team, etc. Josh will start. You are going to be surprised with his ability, not to mention his experience.

Parcells would never have drafted Beck. Beck wont see the light under center next year, even if McCown gets hurt, look for Parcels to go with another FA veteran.

Beck cant even catch a snap in shotgun, hold on to the ball while throwing, and has a bad case of fumblititis. He absolutely stunck up the place.

I just don' see how Beck would start over a more experienced QB like McCown. I also think it is likely that we take Flacco or Henne in the 2nd round. I wish Beck well but he is going to have to do a lot more than he has shown.
