I like Nick Saban and all and am willing to see things unfold as they must.

But I have to comment on my gut wrinching feeling that I get when I think that Feeley has to go through another grind of trying to beat out another QB (Gus)....that has an inside edge/advantage over him.

Just like Fiedler before him, there is the huge posibility that Gus may win this competition. Are we as fans prepared for that? How comfortable should we feel that Gus is going to be able to completely handle the responsibilities here and hold up for the rest of the year?

Then, what about the fallout from AJ losing his spot and playing second fiddle ::gulp:: (AGAIN)?
Do we have a QB curse on our hands here?

I think Gus is a capable Qb and in Linehan's system he seems to be explosive. I wouldnt mind him winning the spot at all.
I think he is a capable QB too, but his history is riddled with injuries...he wouldn't last long.

if gus wins the job cya feeley. next year draft a qb keep gus for insurance and to teach the rookie

The trick is placing them in a situation where it is easy for both of them to succeed. Having the right offense, right receivers, right OL, and right RB can help that immensely. Houck and a little stability can probably improve the OL play. As much as I know the line needs significant improvement, I like that we will have stability among the interior linemen from last season to this season. Those interior guys need that I think. The WR corp has talent, from Chambers to Booker to Boston, and even Derrius Thompson is capable. The RB corp will be fantastic, so much different from the paltry group we fielded last year that made people around here fall in love with Sammy Morris just because he could consistently gain 3 yards. The offense will be a heck of a lot more vertical...not sure if that is better or what, but there are SOME pieces in place to get this thing turned around and have it not matter who is slinging the ball so much.

Overall I believe the strategy for 2005 is to have a "surprisingly mediocre" offense, and a "surprisingly good" defense. And, the strategy is to have the phins finish at a "surprising" 8-8. Kind of like the Bengals this year, except they had a "surprisingly good" offense and a "surprisingly mediocre" defense.

The writing is on the wall. The future quarterback of the Miami Dolphins is not on the roster.

I agree that we have more powerful weapons and a better staff. I hope those additions alone force improvements in our QB game. However with Feeley having been through this before, it will be up to Saban to exact a measure of quick judgement and not allow the decision of who will start to linger on into the early part of the regular season.

I hope for our team's sake that we see a clear cut winner early in camp.

I just hope that they name a starter by the second preseason game so who ever it is can get all the reps he needs to do the best job for the team. Last year Wanny screwed that up and neither of them was ready.

If I had a choice I would like to see AJ win an Gus be the backup, Gus is use to it and would be better off the bench IMO.

Anything will be better than Feidler.

I just don't see the advantage of having Gus start at all. I mean unless he's going to come out and take us to the play-offs, what good is him guiding the team to an 8-8 season??

I've said all along, we need to see what Feeley has, I thought he should have been named starter a long time ago, even after they signed Gus. And I don't think he should be the starter cuz of the 2nd round pick we gave up, cuz honestly, I don't care anymore, but because we got to see if he can be the future here.

Because you never know when something great could happen, you just have to put yourself in the position to where it could happen. Did Baltimore fans think it was meaningless to have Trent Dilfer start at QB for them the year they won the Super Bowl?

Anyway, it is in the best interest of all involved to get the offense clicking on all cylinders. Players that are here and will continue to be here no matter who is under center need to know what it feels like to get the offense clicking on all cylinders. They need to know success in order to try and consistently achieve it.

Unfortunately, I am pretty sure I know what Feeley has.

I'm sick and tired of QB controversies. It's been like this for 5 years now. I know Jay was Wanny's guy, but every offseason we brought in someone to compete... Huard originally, Lucas, Griese, Feeley...uhgg enough is enough. I can't wait for the day when we can say "*Insert Name Here* will be our starting QB for years to come."

I don't believe that Gus is capable getting the offense to fire on all cylinders but, I see your point.
