I know everyone wants a young quarterback who could develop into a quality starter. I feel the same way. However, just for argument sake let's say Miami signs Couch and he does a 180, showing the skills that made him the top pick over guys like Culpepper and McNabb in 1999. Granted, Couch probably wouldn't even see much of the field this year if he is signed -- but let's say he starts the final five games with a qb rating of about 90, makes good decisions, shows no ill effects from his shoulder injury etc. Do you still draft the young gun, or do you instead take one of the top offensive tackles in a year where there could be about six quality (maybe franchise) tackles? The Dolphins offensive line is clearly as big a problem as the quarterback, although they no doubt go hand in hand. And, as of now, only Leinart would qualify as a potential franchise quarterback from the collegiate seniors. There's no telling if Jacobs, Leak, Young or some of the others will even come out.

Leak? No thanks. Couch coming to us, then playing, then playing better then Gus and AJ then us sucking bad enough to get a good pick? That's a lot of ifs. I still think we draft a QB next year no matter who does what. We have no QBs in the wing, none to groom, etc. Saban strikes me as the farm system type to build thru the draft and constantly bringing up new kids after grooming them.

Agree. Can never have enough depth even if we get a QB this year that pans out. Puts us in a stronger position to deal, if we have injuries, etc. Top teams usually all have depth as a strength.

i think so too, i htink he will be mobile too, such as vince young, chris leak or marcus vick

I think Saban wants to start Frerotte and hope he turns out alright so he can play him next year well the QB we draft works on his mechanics and gets comfortable with our Defense.

There are 4 LT prospects that currently carry a 1st round grade. I would take the best of those and then take a QB for Linehan to groom somewhere outside of the 1st round. Having a LT locked in and then having Carey on the right side would give us the bookend tackles needed to field an effective line every year. The guards and center position can always be addressed in free agency.

My view is that if you think there's a young QB who is truly special, you take him almost without regard to what you have. If you don't think there is something special there, i.e., a Marino, Manning, Montana, Brady, etc., don't bother. Most 1st round QBs never pan out. Many flop horribly. You don't just take a guy because you have a need and he's the best one available. Those guys will take a long time to develop, if ever.

I tend to agree, unless Leinart or Jacobs (if he declares) falls into our lap. I would expect those guys to go top 5 if Jacobs does declare and I don't think Miami will pick that high. But you have to be able to protect the passer and a young qb would have a heck of a time behind this current offensive line.

You take the best player available regardless of need and never look back.

I dont believe you have to have a top 10 pick to draft a pro bowl potential QBs

To me it depends if neither Couch or Feeley prove themselves, then we need to get our future QB, but if one of those two does make a complete turnaround, and prove they can lead an NFL team to Victory, then getting a QB next year Imo is not that important. On the other hand if it's Gus that has a good season, then as far as I am concerned, we still need to get another younger QB.

I am of the opinion that we need to get Couch in here, and place him as our #3 QB as soon as possible.

I agree that the OL has to be looked at first. It makes everything else look better from RB to QB. I do think Miami will be in the top 5 picks for next year's drafts.

True about the offensive line and it's obviously so important to have a LT that can essentially take away the best pass rusher the other team has. It's been a long time since Miami could say that and it's been a huge factor in the team's decline. Don't know about finishing in the bottom five, but I will admit it is very possible.

Why not. It makes sense to see if he has anything in the tank. Couch came into the worst situation possible when he entered the NFL with the expansion Cleveland team and needing to play almost right away. The odds were definitely against him being successful. Health is a concern, but what would the team be losing? Rosenfels is okay, but he's never taken a step forward and he's had enough time to prove himself.
