Dont freak out, it's a legit question about Carson Palmer.
I am not even asking for us because I'm not sure I would want him, but as I understand it he has not officially retired. If he refuses to retire wont the Bengals be forced to hold a roster spot for him, trade him or cut him? For all intents and purposes this is a hold out. Or am I understanding it wrong?

The way I understand it, he is on the reserve/did not report list, which frees up the roster spot for the Bengals. But they keep his rights that way.

Bengals need to stop forcing the issue, What point are they trying to prove?! An unhappy employee who is causing a major distraction you would think would be booted out. The Owner and rip apart a contract and send a player on his way but the NFL player is screwed...messed up.

On another note, Beck looked nice for washington....I think Jon Gruden had an orgasm when watching his ONE good drive last night. That man has to be gay, he hits on every player that does a good job every once in a while.

from PFT:

When he didn’t show up for the start of training camp, the Bengals placed Palmer on the reserve/did not report list, a move that potentially exposes Palmer to $30,000 per day in fines.

As a result, Palmer’s $11.5 million salary currently doesn’t count toward the cap, which is irrelevant since the Bengals remain many millions under the spending limit.

The end game for both sides remains unclear. Palmer possibly hasn’t officially retired in order to preserve his ability to show up on a moment’s notice, if he decides to do so. By reporting, for example, in the days before the first game of the season, the Bengals would have to decide quickly whether to cut him or to keep him, given that his base salary becomes fully guaranteed as of Week One.

Either way, this thing isn’t over yet. Otherwise, Palmer would simply file his retirement papers, and move on.

palmer may force mke brown to make a move if palmer shows up last day
sort of like a farve move

Yea, I heard that. They would owe him something like 11mil, now if he did that, they would be forced to pay a QB who they really don't want anymore. So maybe they would want to trade. Granted this is all speculation.

The Bengals have somewhere around $26 Million in cap room so they could easily absorb the $11.5 Million for Palmer. I think those morons would actually just pay Palmer and make him the most expensive backup EVER than trade him.

Dalton is showing some promise for them. They should just trade Palmer and stick with the younger QB and continue to build the team with the picks they will get from Palmer.
Palmer traded to the Fins? Not likely at this point.

Carson Palmer has 3 years and $38.5M left on his contract with the Bengals. No one forced him to sign that deal. He agreed to the contract, and he should honor it. By calling his bluff, the Bengals are making him forfeit the remaining $38.5M of his contract. By trading him, he gets his money. So, you can see the Bengals' principle on this. By trading him, they would be rewarding him for backing out of the contract he agreed to. I don't blame the Bengals for playing hardball with him. They've honored their end of the deal, paying him $80M since 2006. Palmer is the one quitting on his team here, and he should not be rewarded.

Certainly a valid way of looking at it. However, keep in mind that teams don't have to honor contracts - they can just cut you and not have to pay you. By trading him, the Bengals also would get some compensation. If he never shows, the Bengals lose. Very interesting situation.

On a related note ... Palmer's little brother is the 3rd string QB, who is expected to stick. If Carson reports, it is expected Palmer bumps his brother off the roster. Moooommmm!!! lol
