QB Search Update

I really hope its Maddox, he would be a good option as our backup QB.

We might as well just stick with Brock Berlin and Lemon as the backup....then wait and see if Cutler drops to #16.....if not, Brodie Croyle in the 3rd round.

But Saban said he wants a veteran

Actually Maddox means Lemon...basically. If we sign Maddox, there's no guarantee he even makes the team, and it will be a sure sign that we'll end up drafting a rookie, possibly as high as round 4. If we get Harrington or Collins I doubt we'll draft a rookie, but would probably sign one as a UDFA. But since it doesn't look like we'll get either Harrington or Collins...better start getting use to the possibility of a Charlie Whitehurst or Omar Jacobs in Round 4.

Taking a Qb that could possibly take over if Culpepper doesn't return to full strength I think is a smart move. Although I think Reggie McNeal makes alot more sense than those guys because if Culpepper does return I think he can step in and be a WR. He ran I believe a 4.35 or so at the combine so he has the speed, but while watching him play Qb he has the arm stength also. I think the biggest question mark on him is "can he stay healthy? He's got talent and I would rather see him chosen than Whitehurst or Jacobs in the the 4th rd.

maddox is terrible. there's got to be a better veteran backup available for a similar price

Agree. Plus Brock Berlin is not really doing too well in the NFL Europe league. I'm starting to worry a little. I think Pepper will be ready for opening day, but if he gets hurt somewhere along the way I don't thing Berlin or Lemon can keep the bandwagon going.

That would be an awful trade IMO. Would rather go with Maddox.

Anywho, I love Reggie McNeal and I've graded him as high as a second rounder in the past...but the bottom line is I've not heard word one of any interest in him from the Dolphins. I can't imagine how they could possibly be looking at Vince Young yet not Reggie McNeal, but hey that's their choice. I say Whitehurst or Jacobs because bottom line they've shown open interest in both those guys.

That's fine. But that gives us too many backup QBs with no NFL experience. I'm not sure what the answer is at this time (maybe Morrell, DeBerg, or Kosar is around...for you old fans!). Banking on Pepper and a bunch of rookies is not a good move at this time. Get a verteran for #2 and draft someone for the future.

I don't see how getting harrington and a 5th is a bad deal

especially when Whitehurst and Jacobs will likely be gone before our pick in the 4th
