35 "NFL insiders" were asked to rank the starting quarterbacks into tiers. Here's the insider article link: http://espn.go.com/nfl/insider/stor...iders-rank-32-starting-quarterbacks-tiers-nfl

They just went through the tiers on sportscenter and here's how they rank:

Carry teams and comopete for titles without as much help:
Rodgers
Brady
Luck
Roethlisberger
Peyton manning
Brees

Less consistent and need more health but good enough to figure in championship equation:
Rivers
Wilson
Romo
Flacco
Ryan
Eli Manning
Stafford
Newton

Good enough but need lots of support:
Palmer
Alex Smith
Tannehill
Dalton
Kaepernick
Carr
Cutler
Foles
Bradford
Bridgewater

Unproven or not expected to start all season:
Mariota
Winston
Bortles
RG3
McCown
Hoyer
Cassel
Geno Smith

I think Tannehill is ranked in the correct tier, however I would put him at the top of it and drop Newton and Stafford into the same tier below Tannehill.

Point is, Thill is an ascending player who has as much upside or more to ANYONE on that list.

Add to that his overall trajectory -- and the future looks very bright...

Good enough, but needs lots of support is exactly how I would describe Tannehill. Newton belongs in that category too, and so does Stafford.

I agree w what u said about our qb thrill.i dont care about other team qb.

Really big ben can carry his team to titles? Brees? That window is gone.
Rivers stafford ryan and newton? They all figure in the championship equation? The playoff equation maybe.. What a list

I think he's smack dab in between tiers 2 and 3. I don't think any of the qbs in tier 3 are better than Tannehill but it's hard to argue bumping someone on tier 2 for him other than maybe Stafford.

I posted the article of this earlier in the other QB rankings thread. Tannehill will probably be in the 11-17 area for the pre season rankings. I have no issues with that because most of the people doing the rankings haven't watched every QB in detail and I doubt they have researched every QB's situation for the upcoming year. Looking forward to watching Tannehill slide up their rankings as the year goes on. Anyways here is the write up on Tannehill from the Insider evaluation.

17. Ryan Tannehill | Miami Dolphins

Average rating: 2.86 | Change in rating: +13.9%

2014 Rank: 23

Voters moved Tannehill more solidly into the third tier, with most suggesting a 2 would be his ceiling. Tannehill has made statistical gains every year even though the Dolphins have struggled to build a capable offensive line, running game and receiving corps around him. The defense also fell apart late last season. Even with those mitigating factors, some voters wanted to see more from Tannehill.

"He does not have any signature wins yet," an offensive coordinator said. "Who has Tannehill beat toward the end of the year?"

A personnel director who studied Tannehill closely coming out of college said he thought accuracy and pocket poise would always be issues. He feels the same way now.

"Look, he is not Mark Sanchez, but there are some similarities in Mike Tannenbaum giving Tannehill [a six-year, $96-million] deal and Tannenbaum giving Sanchez [a three-year, $40.5-million] deal," this director said. "They want to be ahead of the curve and I get it, but you need to be right. Tannehill is a great kid, he works, he does everything you want, but there was a little bit of panic in college, and there still is. I have not seen a game yet where it slowed down for him. Say what you want, he has a losing record."

A different director called Tannehill a 2 with the potential to reach the top tier based on athleticism and potential for positional growth after playing receiver in college. But he had concerns about Tannehill's deep-ball accuracy, adding that Tannehill could use a better running back. He also thought losing Charles Clay would hurt more than some anticipated.

"His biggest issue is his lack of natural arm strength, and because of that, you watch him on tape last year, Mike Wallace is wide open constantly and he just can't get the ball down the field," a GM said. "But being a smooth operator, he is a guy who is trending toward a 2. I do see the physical tools to be a 1."

Thill have not done anything in nfl to say he belong in group2. But he is getting better as nfl qb. What that mean I don't know in ten year I will have answer.

All fine and dandy ... Let's talk after this season .

This is a cop out list by the Insiders. It is a fantasy football list from top to bottom. Insiders have no pulse on us. 2nd year in an awesome system, better WR and TE's, and hopefully with Mathis, a stronger OL. This year could be the year of the production drop off of Manning, Brees, Brady or Romo. The reality is IT will happen. Add Rivers too.

This article would have been better if they put a green arrow for those trending up , those trending down and those who remain at the same level .

I'm ok with tier 2 or 3 . Either one is fine with the arrow pointing upward.

They included last years ranking for each QB, I think that could suggest which way they are trending. Tannehill jumped 6 spots from their last rankings whereas Foles dropped 7 and RG dropped 9. I don't see how they can rank the rookie QB's having not played a down.

Wherever you'r putting Ryan, Stafford, Eli and Newton, you should be including Tannehill somewhere in the middle of that group.

Didn't Matt Ryan go 4-12 and 6-10 the last two seasons? Didn't Roethlisberger have consecutive 8-8 seasons? Hasn't Cam Newton had 3 of 4 season of 7 wins or less? Didn't Stafford have consecutive seasons of 4-12 and 7-9? Hasn't Brees had seasons of 7-9, 8-8, and 7-9. Didn't Romo have seasons of 6-10, 8-8, 8-8, and 8-8? Didn't E. Manning have seasons of 8-8, 8-8, and 7-9? Didn't Rivers have seasons of 8-8, 8-8, and 7-9?

ALL QBS NEED HELP FROM THE SUPPORTING CAST.

The idea that Tannehill needs more help because of a ****ty roster and that his seasons of 6-10, 7-9, and 8-8 are more indicative than very similar seasons from players in tiers 1 and 2 is STUPID. The facts are plain.
