After watching the game for a second time (thank you Tivo)...I've come to the conclusion that the real issue for this team was not whether AJ or Gus was better or how well Brock and Sage did, but how terrible was the OL...

Carey held his own, except for blitz packages...Hadnot, St. Clair and JJ could not get any push in the middle. Stockar played decently. When the second group started coming in, the play calling changed and they gave the OL help with the TEs and FBs...

The bottom line was that the OL stunk the joint up and caused the other issues. Of course a few caught passes by DT and Lee and even Chambers would have made a difference.

We must face the fact that we are in for a long season again if the OL doesn't improve more. I realize it's the first game and the Bears were blitzing more than they expected, but why wouldn't that happen during the season as well ?? Once teams see us on film, they'll do the same things (just like most of last year.)

So stop bashing AJ, don't get upset that Gus was off on his passes (even though his receivers made some good catches), don't worry that Gus won't or can't throw the intermediate passes very well, or that DT and Lee keep dropping balls (as usual)....don't worry that AJ isn't comfortable in the system where Gus is very comfortable and moved well in the pocket sometimes...

Be concerned about how there were no holes for the RBs, no running game to speak of, missed assignments on the OL all night, lack of ability or learning to pick up the blitzes, no push in the middle allowing Chiboys to keep 8 and 9 guys in the box nearly all night...That is our real concern for the rest of the preseason.....

definately agree, though i really dont think carey held his own, he had a bunch of problems out there... the middle got no push and we had a lot of collapsing pockets... mostly with their first team defense against our first line though... i felt like our number 2s against theirs we did a little better

I think once ,we get our starting five together and let them
gel,they will be okay

I saw some holes for the RB's, but I also saw the RB's miss those holes, and there were times when the QB's had a good amount of time to throw the ball too, but they struggled with the heavy blitz which can relatively easy be fixed

I agree with your post. The O-line must improve and I believe they will. The first unit should be ok. The real problem is what happens when one or two of them get knicked or injured?

I believe our first O-line will do fine with some work together. I'm not so sure we have enough depth to do well for any length of time though. Let's pray the O-line gets better and stays healthy.
