Last year, Ryan Tannehill quietly established himself as the second best quarterback in the AFC East, going vertical for 4,045 yards and 27 touchdowns. Now heading into his fourth year, Tannehill has already improved upon his completion percentages, yardage, touchdowns, and QB rating with each successive NFL season. That said, the Dolphins QB was, and is, easy to overlook, especially given the talent and media-ready personalitiesthat dominate his team’s division.
Tannehill was actually the leading receiver at Texas A&M, through his first two seasons in College Station, and didn’t become the full-time starter at QB until his senior year, when he torched defenses for 3,744 yards, rocketing up NFL draft boards in the process. There’s no doubt that he brings a unique perspective to quarterbacking, in terms of both his athleticism and knowledge of route trees, as such the sky is the limit for Miami’s quarterback.

For now, Tom Brady and his four Super Bowl titles loom large, above Tannehill in the AFC East. Of course, with the addition of Ndamukong Suh and Brady staring down a four-game suspension, in light of Deflategate, the Fins may then very well find themselves alone atop of the AFC East by Week 5.

Tom Brady is on top, but Tannehill does not have FatherTime on his side, Brady does. And as much as he cheats, he can't cheat him self out of FatherTime, So yes our Qb Tannehill will rule the east……..

Tannehill was a breakout player last year. I don't see how 4,000+ yds, 27 TD's, and 66.5% completion rate in a new offense, from a 3rd year player that is relatively new at the position in terms of his peers, gets overlooked like he has.

I think it's more accurate to assume that the Dolphins are poised to breakout in '15. Tannehill's already there and there's an excellent possibility he'll improve even more this coming season like he has every year. But his breakout has already happened.

That's why players try to ignore outside critiques. Tannehill put up good numbers last year and people will say "It's about wins and loses not individual numbers." Then someone like Andrew Dalton will win games and get to the playoffs only to have people say "Look at his numbers, he's not that good."

You know why Tannehill gets overlooked? He plays the most important position for a team that hasn't had a playoff appearance in his tenure here. He's a good quarterback but far from great.

You know what makes him great? When it doesn't matter if it's a new OC, or a below average offensive line, or when he becomes the reason Miami seals up a game instead of relying on the defense to seal a win.

Tony Romo's numbers are some of the best we've seen in NFL history as a quarterback, but he's often left off of lists when talking about great quarterbacks. For the exact same reason.

Nailed it.

Romo only got put in the upper echelon after the boys gave him the best oline in football and hid his tendency or trait even for the massive brain fart in the clutch behind said running game and oline

Dont get it twisted...romo has the same flaws he did years ago they are just masked by that line and running game...put more on romos plate get more mistakes

when tannehill shows you that brain fart trait in the clutch repeatedly it will be a valid criticism...to date nope...

Nailed nothing. You whiffed and smashed your thumb. I don't give credit to a fantasy football mentality where the wins and losses are pinned on a QB. Everyone is accountable for victory and defeat. Victory is produced by and won by all.

Now I know I just posted statistics but if you would like to break down his game from a film perspective, I'd be more than happy to oblige. Tannehill's skills and mechanics are very good and some great: instinctive, competitive, excellent work ethic, footwork, balance, athleticism, timing, release, pre-snap reads, post-snap read, coverage recognition, accuracy. You don't complete 66.4% of your passes in the NFL from sheer luck.

 im gonna have to use that whiffed and smashed your thumb line

Exactly! Even though I, and we all worry about the OL, I can't help but think back to the beginning of last year when Albert was in there. The line was much better. Now get Pouncy back at center, James back over to RT and the hopefully two young guards playing at least ok, I can't see how the OL won't be pretty good and Tanni be even better. Not to mention, Tanni now has more than one target that can catch the ball!
