And once again, the Dolphins’ depth is being tested.
So far the results have been good.
In fact, so far the Dolphins have showed they have quality depth, which is better than simply having depth.
The Dolphins lost linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (hip) for the season and discovered Jelani Jenkins.
They lost running back Knowshon Moreno (knee) for the season and re-discovered Lamar Miller.
Reserve guard Dallas Thomas met the challenge when Shelley Smith was out.
With Albert out and left guard Daryn Colledge battling a back injury, both Thomas and Smith are likely to start this week.
Thomas will start at right tackle, and Smith could start at left guard.
Colledge said Monday he’s “day to day.”
All things considered, the Dolphins’ depth has come through pretty well this season.
Safety Jimmy Wilson held it down while Reshad Jones was serving a four-game suspension.
Defensive end Dion Jordan has proven a useful reserve since returning from a six-game absence due to suspension.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...arry-dolphins-to-playoffs-20141111-story.htmlEvery NFL team gets its depth tested. Season-ending injuries and weeks-long absences happen all the time.
It’s been a struggle all season. But the Dolphins, for the most part, have done the job.
As the Dolphins approach Thursday’s game against Buffalo it appears the offensive line will have three starters at new positions – James at left tackle, Thomas at right tackle and Smith at left guard.
Quality depth is a key ingredient to a playoff team.
If the Dolphins continue to show the former, they could become the latter.
