How is his play-action passing is he good at it ??? I personally think play action will be huge for us this year with all the 8 man front we will probably be facing...

I think his play fakes could be a little better. His execution was not the best Sat night I can tell you that.

Actually I think his secondary skills are pretty good including play action. My worry with him is his tendency to overthrow and underthrow his receivers. He's been doing that his entire career and if he continues doing it, I see alot of interceptions in our future. Hopefully with more reps with our recievers he can somehow get that under control.

I hope he can get very good at it...but it does seem like a skill you either have or you dont...or maybe you just have to want to be good at it ALA peyton. I think it could make a huge difference for us if he is at least decent.

But to put it in perspective, Dan was known as the worst ever at using PA and it never seemed to bother his numbers. And no before someone says something, I am not saying Gus is comparable to Dan, I was just making a point.

The thing about Gus is that he is probably close to being all that he ever will be. I doubt at this point in his career that he will "get very good" at anything he isnt already at least pretty good at. Thats OK though...I trust Saban's judgement and if he thinks Gus is the guy for the job, then fine. I just dont think at this stage he will be showing a lot of new skills(or will vastly improve on old ones) that no one has seen from him before.

Gus is pretty mediocore with the play fakes but I didnt see Daunte doing a spectacular job on the rare occassions play fakes were used by Linehan in Minny. i think Gus does enough to sell the play like most qbs but there are only so many boomer esiason's who really can sell a playfake lights out.

what i want to know is this in both games we have played why havent we seen a long pass by gus or feeley letting the wr take it in stride why???

NO ONE was going to bite anyway.. it was Danny :D and kareem Abdul Jabbar  . the difference is people will BITE on a good playfake with our current personel.

His rollouts leave a little something to be desired in his running and his throwing, but the fakes themselves are quality

With the improvement in the OL's pass protection I don't necessarily see the need for a whole lot of rollouts anyway. Play-action passes straight up would probably work.

Well count me as disppointed in Gus being the starter right now..I still prefer AJ..but that's me, and I'm not the coach..this whole team is struggling to a certain extend, and I say let AJ struggle with them until they all learn this new system. But my concern with Gus, just like all the QB's is consistency..

Personally with just the threat of having Ricky or Ronnie back there is enough to sell a fake. If you notice almost every time Ricky has been in the game the other team has been bringing extra people up for run coverage. I think with these 2 RB's our PA fake doesnt have to be outstanding. All it will take is a couple draw plays from Ricky or Ronnie and I think we can buy a lot of time.

I just hope this is a situation for Gus were he is in a good system for him and it will bring out the best in his game. I'm more comfortable seeing him take the snaps than I am Feeley. Seems also after the comment that Randy McMike made he likes having Gus at QB also.
