Ok maybe you guys can help me with this one. How does a guy give up a grand total of 2 sacks in his entire college career and be labeled as being questionable as a pass blocker? Geez! What does he have to do? What would a great pass blocker do? One of them sacks is by probably a top 5 or top 10 pick this year. I just don't get it. Oh well I just hope if we pick Jake that he can pas block! :d-day:

some point out that he gets off balance easily, but most of that has do due with anticipating too much, and playing in a zone blocking scheme.

Of course, a lot of people start to overanalyze players and find a chink in the armour and decide that it's a huge problem, but that happens every year. If you watch someone long enough looking for a weakness, you'll find something you hate. If Long entered the draft last year, everybody would've been screaming for him if he fell to 9.

Speaking of last year, a prime example is Levi Brown. Nobody thought he'd be a good pick at 9, he had a good senior bowl then everybody wanted him. Then he wan a bad 40 and nobody wanted him. I repeat, nobody wanted a 300+ lb offensive tackle because he ran a bad 40 time.

I think the part that most fans are over looking is the person that got that sack was the best DE in this draft. When you look at Gholston...he has the size and speed that makes up a great DE...and J. Long played against him again...only giving up so little in years. J. Long will not face any better DE's in the NFL...most aren't as fast or as strong as Gholston...and with the right O-line coach and the right system..J. Long will be a great LT for a decade barring injury. Add the fact that J. Long is a road grader...only makes him the right player for the Dolphins...until the Dolphins acquire a player like J. Long...they will always struggle with both the run and the pass...the O-line has to be fixed once and for all.

I couldn't agree more, I love how people think VG will be great and played well against J.Long (not great but well) and somehow that means J.Long can't play LT. I never could understand how it works one way but not the other. J.Long will be the best pick we can make.

in words of mel kiper. is all about projection. he played in the big ten, which isnt a speedy conference at all. some of his traits make him vunerable IMO. and at the next level it will get exposed if he doesnt improve.

can he improve and be a all world LT? possible. but as of right now his skill set is much better suited at RT.

though one thing, if we pick Long at 1. ill eat all my words because im pretty sure Sparano knows more about OLinemen then me.

Watch the tape, evaluate his skill set and then project him to the next level. That is how the process works.

Stats are highly misleading.

When I watch Jake Long I see a very lean tackle who struggles to move laterally and redirect. I see a player who struggles to keep defenders away from his body. I see a player who often overextends himself to make up for these flaws. I also see a player who struggles to handle more powerful defenders. In essence, I see a player who may struggle on both sides of the line but should be able to carve out a nitch on the right side.

I realize that this runs against media perception, but that is how I feel after watching the tape. Take if for whatever you want, but don't be surprised if the top four tackles to come out of this draft when its all said and done are Albert - Otah - Clady - Long in that order.

Amen. Sparano knows OL and can coach them well. If the pick is Jake, I am sure he will be fine. Get ready for a good running game to keep our D off the field and set up a play action pass to Ted Ginns family.

Stat's for one year....could be misleading...but for 4 years...they are very telling. You claim that the media is making J. Long...I say 4 years of play made him. When you watch 4 years worth of film...see him play in person...talk to him...then I'll see you as someone that knows enough to make a competent decision. What you forget is...it's not the media that makes the decisons...but the GM's and coaches and scouts....and I highly doubt that there's a team that doesn't have him rated the best tackle prospect in this draft. We'll see.
