Question about Rookie Contract Negotiations.

With the recent Ronnie Brown Situation, I along with many others am pretty upset that he's not in camp yet.

My question is how have rookies come to expect this much money their first season? Does it have more to do with the agent rather than the actual player? Do they take it as an insult if the 10th pick overall is getting paid more than the second? What ever happened to rookies signing a regular low risk contract until he proves he deserves the big $$? What's happened? The whole thing seems to be getting a little out of hand Imo.

Any one who knows more about this matter on a professional level, your input will be appreciated. Please refrain from any bashing, taunting, or empty comments.

The only way I can explain it to you is that to blame the New York frekan Giants for giving Manning that huge contract, and then came the domino effect with Alex Smith ....

not only agents but the teams themselves have helped create this overall situation.

A Signing bonus became a way for teams so attempt to get around the salary cap, which works to a certain extent. And even when teams decided to cut back on draft contracts, I believe it was last year or the year before, it just takes one team paying more to screw it up (although I believe this is also considered a form of collusion against the players, the NFLPA just wasn't able to prove it). Teams get so desperate for talent that they draft an unproven player who's shown to have a great career in college and a wealth (pun intended) of talent that they succumb to agents demands.

Yea....But that wasn't the first time. This has progressively gotten worse over the years.

Your pretty much on the right track. It is an insult for the 2nd pick to be paid less than the 3rd pick let alone the 10th. While it's easy to see the players as "greedy" where is that money coming from?? How much did Huizinga make last year? Would it be better for the players to make a few million less each year so that the owners can make a few billion more? At least the players represent the package we are actually buying, they might as well be the ones who reap the rewards.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for players getting what they can because they can be cut at anytime (other than when they are hurt when they still only get an injury settlement.... if the team really wants to get rid of them) but my arguments are based on how the contracts effect the teams salary cap. Not on how much H. Wayne makes.
