Because sun life stadium made an ugly baseball stadium?
 
The renovation has three phases, the first has been completed; the second and third phases of renovation will take place after the Marlins move from the stadium. These remaining phases include the addition of a roof to shield fans from the rain, as well as remodeling the sidelines of the lower bowl to narrow the field and bring seats closer, ending its convertibility to baseball.

The retractable roof has nothing to do with shielding fans lol. Bet that.

If Ross wants to keep Miami in the Super Bowl rotation, he'll put that roof up.
 
Funny how Roger Goodell complains about the Colts/Bears SB in Miami because of the rain and that Miami's stadium is falling behind all the other state of the art ones in the league. Yet he grants NY/NJ a SB lol MIA has lost out on I think 2 of the next 5 SB venues. I'm surprised HOU hasn't hosted another one since 2003.
 
dont forget that these renovations are also important in keeping the orange bowl classic part of the bcs rotation
 
Basically,

Because the Marlins owner is a crooked little worm, exchanging briefcases with politicians claiming he was broke and made no money off the Marlins.
Promising how building a billion dollar stadium in a slum neighboor hood would increase profits all around the city and rejuvenate Downtown. Then, once his finiancial records got hacked and it was shown what a foony he was. Welcome to Miami politics.

Kinda funny, that his buddys construction company got the winning bid....oh, they were also the only company to bid....a cool 15% over market value, so someone got some chump change in their pocket.

Oh, did I mention the % tax increase to all of us tax payers to cover all the cost?
