Could it be that the reason we're not bringing in more CBs for depth is that the Wide 9 defense doesn't require the emphasis on the outside players. As I understand it, the W9 forces opposing teams to run inside, so you need more Dlinemen and LBs. We signed that one LB lansana instead of Hall or cromartie. Maybe this year's defense will not require as many cbs as last year. I think in last year's defense, I read that the nickel plays more snaps than the WLB, and could be considered a starter over the WLB (jenkins).

The new coach interviews are really good, check them out on the fins home site. As far as outside guys, big press corners seem to be most coveted in this scheme.

You mean press corners like Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain? We really haven't had anybody who could play press like those two around here for a long time.

Byron Maxwell is a good start to revamping the secondary to fit the Wide 9, he was a force in Seattle. I really think that side of the secondary (Maxwell, Reshad Jones) is going to be top notch and hard to be successful against. Both can play the run, and both are physical; Maxwell has great length to contest the deep ball enough to not really stress to much about it, especially with the pressure up front that's going to make it hard for a QB to make a 5-7 step dropback and just hurl the ball.

Howard/Lippett with IQD over the top is the real question mark that we need to see in preseason.

Agreed. I just remember thinking last year with our Oline, we could have signed Evan Mathis for depth but chose not to. Our OL depth was terrible last year. At first glance, the CB situation looks similar in that there's a veteran we could bring in to help with depth - antonio cromartie - however I trust Vance Joseph a lot more than I trust Joe Philbin and his his staff.
