Boomer, I'm very curious as to why you changed your opinion of Percy Harvin. If anything I thought that given the recent drug, attitude, and "bad crowd" concerns his stock would have fallen, not risen. Please explain why your opinion of Harvin has changed so drastically.

Boomer: "There is no way on God's green earth that Ireland or Parcells sign off on Percy Harvin. None."

Boomer: "Size. Don't get me wrong, he's a fabulous player. But 5-10, 185 give or take an inch and 10lbs....that's just not part of the mantra. They would never have drafted a bigger Ted Ginn and they won't draft Harvin for the same reason."

Boomer: "Dude, with respect, I think you're drinking the Kool Aid a little on this.
First of all, what is Percy Harvin?
Second of all, Ginn isn't 175lbs. I'll bet that Ginn is up in the 190's.
Thirdly, if you think that Percy Harvis is going to be doing all that he does for Florida in the NFL, then you're generally mistaken and lastly, Miami isn't going to draft a junior WR who isn't really a full time WR who doesn't run the route tree, who has questions about his size and may well be packing on weight to a smaller lower frame in a bid to be drafted higher.
It isn't happening. If Miami draft him in round 1 I'll buy you your own pub."
11/19/08 4:40 am
Boomer: "Actually it's rather naive of you to not have interests in the Ginn comparisons. Ginn does what Harvin does and vice versa. Whether you like it or not. You can only have so many luxury items on your offense.
Ted Ginn runs the route tree. Percy Harvin does not. Miami WANTS A DAY ONE STARTER. That is not Percy Harvin. Parcells won't be here after 2010 at the latest. The assumption that there is this fantasy land where Chad Henne is throwing rainbows to Harvin cracks me up."

Boomer: "Is the message hitting home as to why it won't be Percy Harvin?"
11/19/08 7:44 AM
Boomer: "See again, anytime you say that a guy with no NFL experience is going to blow a rising NFL player "out of the water", you lose your argument. I don't care whether your friend is Jesus H Christ himself, with respect, the roles that Ginn and Harvin will play in the NFL are very similar.
I'm not sure why you can't grasp this.
I'm afraid that you and your friend are having trouble accepting that Miami won't be drafting Percy Harvin. I'm sorry for that fact. But it is what it is."
11/19/08 7:51
Boomer: "Honest to God, if you think Jeff Ireland and Bill Parcells are going to sign off on a positonless junior wide receiver with heavy weight gain on maxed out frame and small legs when they already have Ted Ginn, a player they wouldn't have drafted anyway, when they've only ever drafted two wideouts in their 25 year history with the draft and one of those was forced on Parcells and the other was drafted 21 years ago, then you're deluded."

From David Hyde blog, Sun Sentinel. Quote from Simon Clancy, aka Boomer
Boomer: "I know this for a fact about Harvin; the Miami Dolphins are very, very interested in him. I understand that the team has had at least four separate meetings with him; one at the Combine, one at the UF pro day, one when Sparano, Parcells and Ireland flew to Gainesville and at least one in Davie. He is very raw as a receiver; he doesn’t run the route tree, he has a history with injuries, there are the still circulating drug allegations that haven’t been denied, he looks to have piled on a lot of late weight that has teams worried and yet he’s a fabulously exciting talent who has to be considered because of the Wildcat offense. Most receivers, especially those as raw as Harvin, will take three years to come to the boil. Look at our own Ted Ginn. He was more polished than Harvin leaving Ohio State, but he’s still in that learning phase. What Percy brings to the table that almost all receivers in the draft don’t is that he will be of immediate help. Be it as the motion back in the Wildcat, as a running back, on screens and flares and as a decoy to open up the rest of the offense. And we may see his signature play – the counter – which is something we’ve not used in Dan Henning’s offense yet, but is another wrinkle to keep defenses guessing. As a friend said to me, "He takes a hand off while in motion, a la the motion back in the Wildcat, and then performs a counter move basically on a dime. That would open up the weak side of the formation pretty nicely." And he’s right. Here’s the evidence to prove it: "
Top 3 Possibilities for 25: Percy Harvin, Brandon Pettigrew, Clay Matthews. Wildcard: Michael Johnson
Simon’s Pick: Half of me says a very nervous nod towards Percy Harvin, but safety first says Brandon Pettigrew.
