Boomer, I'm very curious as to why you changed your opinion of Percy Harvin. If anything I thought that given the recent drug, attitude, and "bad crowd" concerns his stock would have fallen, not risen. Please explain why your opinion of Harvin has changed so drastically.

From 11/16//08- the thread is "19th pick as of today (estimation) who do you draft? (Phins.com)

11/17/08 1:56 pm

Boomer: "There is no way on God's green earth that Ireland or Parcells sign off on Percy Harvin. None."

11/17/08 3:22 pm

Boomer: "Size. Don't get me wrong, he's a fabulous player. But 5-10, 185 give or take an inch and 10lbs....that's just not part of the mantra. They would never have drafted a bigger Ted Ginn and they won't draft Harvin for the same reason."

11/19 4:25 am

Boomer: "Dude, with respect, I think you're drinking the Kool Aid a little on this.

First of all, what is Percy Harvin?

Second of all, Ginn isn't 175lbs. I'll bet that Ginn is up in the 190's.

Thirdly, if you think that Percy Harvis is going to be doing all that he does for Florida in the NFL, then you're generally mistaken and lastly, Miami isn't going to draft a junior WR who isn't really a full time WR who doesn't run the route tree, who has questions about his size and may well be packing on weight to a smaller lower frame in a bid to be drafted higher.
It isn't happening. If Miami draft him in round 1 I'll buy you your own pub."

11/19/08 4:40 am
Boomer: "Actually it's rather naive of you to not have interests in the Ginn comparisons. Ginn does what Harvin does and vice versa. Whether you like it or not. You can only have so many luxury items on your offense.

Ted Ginn runs the route tree. Percy Harvin does not. Miami WANTS A DAY ONE STARTER. That is not Percy Harvin. Parcells won't be here after 2010 at the latest. The assumption that there is this fantasy land where Chad Henne is throwing rainbows to Harvin cracks me up."

11/19/08 5:38 am

Boomer: "Is the message hitting home as to why it won't be Percy Harvin?"

11/19/08 7:44 AM

Boomer: "See again, anytime you say that a guy with no NFL experience is going to blow a rising NFL player "out of the water", you lose your argument. I don't care whether your friend is Jesus H Christ himself, with respect, the roles that Ginn and Harvin will play in the NFL are very similar.

I'm not sure why you can't grasp this.

I'm afraid that you and your friend are having trouble accepting that Miami won't be drafting Percy Harvin. I'm sorry for that fact. But it is what it is."

11/19/08 7:51

Boomer: "Honest to God, if you think Jeff Ireland and Bill Parcells are going to sign off on a positonless junior wide receiver with heavy weight gain on maxed out frame and small legs when they already have Ted Ginn, a player they wouldn't have drafted anyway, when they've only ever drafted two wideouts in their 25 year history with the draft and one of those was forced on Parcells and the other was drafted 21 years ago, then you're deluded."

From David Hyde blog, Sun Sentinel. Quote from Simon Clancy, aka Boomer

Boomer: "I know this for a fact about Harvin; the Miami Dolphins are very, very interested in him. I understand that the team has had at least four separate meetings with him; one at the Combine, one at the UF pro day, one when Sparano, Parcells and Ireland flew to Gainesville and at least one in Davie. He is very raw as a receiver; he doesn’t run the route tree, he has a history with injuries, there are the still circulating drug allegations that haven’t been denied, he looks to have piled on a lot of late weight that has teams worried and yet he’s a fabulously exciting talent who has to be considered because of the Wildcat offense. Most receivers, especially those as raw as Harvin, will take three years to come to the boil. Look at our own Ted Ginn. He was more polished than Harvin leaving Ohio State, but he’s still in that learning phase. What Percy brings to the table that almost all receivers in the draft don’t is that he will be of immediate help. Be it as the motion back in the Wildcat, as a running back, on screens and flares and as a decoy to open up the rest of the offense. And we may see his signature play – the counter – which is something we’ve not used in Dan Henning’s offense yet, but is another wrinkle to keep defenses guessing. As a friend said to me, "He takes a hand off while in motion, a la the motion back in the Wildcat, and then performs a counter move basically on a dime. That would open up the weak side of the formation pretty nicely." And he’s right. Here’s the evidence to prove it: "

Top 3 Possibilities for 25: Percy Harvin, Brandon Pettigrew, Clay Matthews. Wildcard: Michael Johnson

Simon’s Pick: Half of me says a very nervous nod towards Percy Harvin, but safety first says Brandon Pettigrew.

oh snap! Good find. Out of Boomers 4 picks at he bottom, none will be Dolphins.

Doesnt look like he has changed his opinion of Harvin, but he has changed his opinion of how Miami views Harvin.

Alot has happend since November, he is just trying to base his picks on the info available, and some of that info says the Fins are hot on Harvin.

Making draft predictions isnt a wish-list as much as trying to figure out what the teams are going to do with their picks.

I'd imagine if Boomer was the GM, Harvin wouldn't be the pick. Although maybe your right, maybe he has softened up on Percy a bit.

There seems to be something of an endorsement from Boomer for the selection of Harvin in yesterday's Sun Sentinel blog, as included in the thread.

I just got temporarily banned at Phins.com for posting this after it was removed in a rather Orwellian fashion- three times I think. I'll try to contain my tears. It's laughable that they consider themselves objective and fair. Moral of this story- the truth hurts. Those who can't take it would do well to refrain from so liberally attempting to dish it out.

They'll probably go and remove the old posts in question. I would expext nothing less.

well, ill tell you why he changed his opinion. Its the fact that we have met with Harvin 4 times. Thats shows that we are interested.

i dont understand the throw it in your face attitude you are taking.

In November, i thought there would be no interest in Harvin as well but the meetings shed some new light on it. Although i still think there is 0% chance we draft Harvin with the 25.

So quick to call someone out and you dont fully understand what you are copy and pastin

But what do they think of him now...after April 20th...thats the important issue.

The ONLY reason you would select Harvin at 25...is if your dumping Ginn. Having Harvin and Ginn...is like having a set of twins...twins that can't run routes..and then you have Bess...what do you do with him...place him as the last resort?

Do you want a medal from him for being right or something?

Nothing boosts the self esteem like telling someone you are right over the Internet...makes me feel tough too...

Uh, that online conversation was with me. I understand everything that you do, and more. It's not merely a question of identifying that the Dolphins have shown interest in Harvin- we all know that. It's about now justifying the selection after rudely dismissing the possibility of it earlier. Some were ahead of the curve, some were far behind it. Try reading through it again and see if you can understand this time.

Good for you. No medal required.

It's just a matter of time tell he makes a uturn on Tim Tebow as well.:pepsi:

It sounds like Jim is asking a fair question especially when Boomer was beyond adamant against Harvin.

I knew this was coming and God knows it was typical of you to keep every word. Suffice to say my opinion hasn't changed. Given what is out there about Harvin, despite the rumours, I will be very surprised if he's a Dolphin.

The off the field stuff is just so overwhelming.
