Unfortunately I was too young to see Dan Marino play in his prime! When I was younger I watched him in his later days as a Dolphin, but never really had the chance to analyze his play week after week. So yeah how did Dan look in his rookie season and the year after? I don't even want to start comparing Henne with Marino but I would like to know what are some apparent differences! Will we ever see another QB as good as Marino in aqua and orange? AHH WHY WAS I BORN IN 91???

Pro bowl rookie season

Went to the superbowl his 2nd year as well as broke a lot of records.

When you watch Peyton Manning play, you're watching the closest thing you'll ever see to Marino in his prime, in terms of playing style. People can argue who's better (I'm sure most of us are going to be biased in Marino's favor) but I think watching Manning pick apart defenses reminds me a lot of watching Marino when I was a kid.

Marino was amazing at finding the mismatch, but he had a lot of passing threats. He had great wide-outs to throw to with Duper, Clayton and Moore. He had Tight Ends that could run the middle seam routes, and RB's coming out of the backfield. His passing arsenal was loaded, watch tape of the 85 Bears/Miami game and you will understand. If we only had a defense while he was playing, he would have brought home at least one championship!

Marino had the strong arm and was a great passer, the quick release, and really everything you wanted in a Pro Quarterback. He was it.

Henne's arm maybe stronger but there's not much touch. He needs to work on that but it should start to come with more starts. His arm looks like David Woodley who may have the strongest arm we every had in Miami.

I don't think anybody threw the long ball better than Marino...

David Woodley? Is there a David Woodley that played in Miami that I don't know about with a stronger arm than Marino?

Dan struck FEAR into defenses as a rookie and his 2nd year.
NOBODY had done what he did then.
Brady,Manning are great...but the rules changes has made it easier for them to
get to Dans single season records.
Dan's quick release and a cannon for a right arm was unbelievable.
Dan took some Dolphin teams in his career that had really,3-13 talent
and he made 8-8 or 9-7..he was that good.
Shula's biggest downfall was that he FAILED to put enough talent around Dan.
I've watched football since 1970 and yes I'm a Dolphin so You might feel I'm
biased but no...If I have a team and I get to chose Elway,Manning,Brady or
Farve or Dan in their prime,I take Dan by a long shot.
His fire to win and physical talent was just so much better.

Perfect post. Marino was awesome in his prime and Manning is as about as close to a Marino clone as you will find.

One of the many totally useless pieces of information I happen to know. Marino' s arm was relatively strong, but as he said, arm strength is overated, velocity, and accuracy are the important things.

Woodley may have had a stronger arm than Marino, I do not know, Marino was always middle of the road in the long distance throws in QB competitions, about 65 yards was his limit.

To put it in perspective, the longest throw ever was Testeverde at 80 yds. The weaker arm QB's would go 55-60 yds.

You should google it. Shula found him in the 8th round in "80. He started that year and in 81, 82, and the first few games of 83. He was a raw ATH not really a pro QB. We all hoped he would keep improving but there was comparing him to Danny once we drafted him. The David Woodley story is a really sad but true story. Somebody should make a movie. A 30 for 30.

Dude please.
Goon is like me,we watched Woodley play for Miami.
We also watched Bob Griese play for Miami...
What he was taking about was you saying David had a
stronger arm than Dan.

Dan's arm was stronger than most because of the way he threw with that quick
release. He didn't have to wind up and get all of his legs into the throw,so it got
there alot quicker than most.
His dad made him throw from his knees to build his arm up for baseball.
Believe me he had a cannon w/ a hair trigger.

Yah!! it's hard to believe we went to a super bowl with Woodley as quarterback...just shows how freakin great our defense was...man i wish we had a defense like the killer bees again...aw it seems like we have one or the other or neither...

It was. But thats all he could do. He could throw it 70 yards pretty easy really. Dan Marino could do it all.
