If he resigns as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, then how does Pittsburgh have any legal binding to recieving compensation from us?

He has legally signed off on his contract, right?

Coaches that were traded for in the past were under contract.

Does this not effect the rule somehow or does the NFL have the ability to change their rules and laws of the land in order to make something happen.

Just wondering.

We'd still have to buy out the final year of the contract he signed.....

If he were fired, that would be another story, but since he is still legally under contract, we have to compensate them. It sucks, but that's the only way we can hire him if we want him this year....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

He resigned but didn't retire. By not retiring he remains under contract with Pittsburgh for the remainder of the agreement.

Gruden and Edwards were traded meaning the teams had to give some type of compensation to aquire them. If we were to aquire Cowher this year, we will have to do the same. The question then becomes, what and how much compensation?

I also wonder if we should do an interview with Cowher and tell him to wait til next year and make Capers interim coach.

You are assuming Capers would take the job knowing that it would be only one year.

i want cowher...and if he give up a pick big deal....i mean....how many picks have turned into jack squat? having an eye for talent in the later rounds and working those gems into your system is what can really make you good!

i would be exstatic if cowher landed here

I'm positive that Wayne H isn't going to hire a coach for one year - if he thinks Cowher is the best fit, he'll get him.

From what I'm hearing, the Dolphins might be in a better position than other teams that traded for a coach. The other coaches were going to coach a team the next year, either their original team or the new team. Cowher is willing to sit out a year to recharge his batteries (since I haven't heard his name popping up with other teams), leaving Pittsburgh with no compensation for him.

The worst thing that could happen to the Dolphins is for another team needing a coach to enter in a bidding war for him.

Would love to have Cowher but not if it means giving up picks

Face it, we NEED our draft picks. It is time to clean house and start from scratch. I would rather have a young NFL OC come in as HC than give up picks or sign another retread. It is time to bring back the glory days. This is a proud franchise with loads of tradition. MAKE IT HAPPEN WAYNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, but thats not the way it works. The one year of ownership is still there. Just because he takes a year off doesnot undo the year he still owes the Steelers. Whether we get him this year or next year we will still have to pay the steelers something.

Cowher's contract runs out at the end of the 2007 season. After that he's free to go wherever he wants without the Steelers receiving compensation.

Really? Drat. So Pitt now has his rights until he comes back, be it 1 year or 10? Well, forget what I said then :D . Thanks for clarifying that for me KT.

I am not calling Cowher a retread by any means. Like I said: I would love to have Cowher but not if it means giving up picks. No way is Cowher a retread.

Did anyone watch his press confrence because he is either the best actor in the world or he wants/needs to take time off.I'm pretty sure HE SAYS WHAT HE MEANS AND MEANS WHAT HE SAYS (unlike the turd that just left)

Okay. I was being a little sarcastic anyways. I think Cowher would be worth a draft pick, especially in the long run.
