For the past 8 years or so the NFL has had a set rotation for schedules. Does anybody know if this system is going to continue. I believe this was the last full time through the rotation.

I live in South Dakota and I've been waiting to the Dolphins to play in Minnesota. Unfortunately, the last time they played the NFC North, the Dolphins - Vikings game was in Miami. The last time they played in Minnesota was over 5 years ago.

Anybody know the story on he rotation? I heard it was for 8 years, anybody know if they're going to stick with it?

Thanks Geforce. So we play the NFC south next year....

Guess I won't be seeing them in Minesota. My best bet might be Kansas City this year.

Once you understand how the schedule works, it's actually pretty easy to determine but kind of difficult to explain. The Dolphins will play every team in their division 2 times (6 games). They play every team from another division in their conference 1 time (this year the AFC East is matched against the AFC West. this rotates every season). They play every team in a division in the other conference (this year the AFC east is matched with the NFC West. This also rotates ) one time. The remaining two games are played against the other 2 teams in divisions in your conference which finished in the same standing as you (i.e. this year Miami will play the last place teams from the AFC North and AFC South. The last place team in the AFC West is already covered due to the AFC East vs AFC West matchup that was predetermined) That's why it is really unfair to blame the league itself for a weak or difficult schedule because the league doesn't just randomly select who teams will play. It is all based on rotation (for division, interdivision, and interconference matchups). Also, the first, second, third, and last place teams in each division are decided solely based on the previous year. If Miami Had finished in first place last season, we would be playing Indianapolis and Pittsburgh thsi season (San Diego won the AFC West but they would be on the schedule regardless because we play AFC West teams this year).

So does this explain why Baltimore comes here two years in a row?

It sure does. Last year, the AFC East was matched up against the AFC North. We played Baltimore, Cleveland, cincinatti, and Pittsburgh. In 2007 Miami and Baltimore both finished in last place in their respective divisions. As a result, we play Baltimore again this year.

And is the decision on home and away random? Also, I believe next year is the last year of this rotation. In the link, in 2009 were matched up with the AFC, and NFC South

No at home/away is based on your record vs the division you are playing. I believe 1st place plays away at 4th place. 2nd place plays away at 3rd place

of course thats just what i "think" i "remember"
