Maybe a mod can start a Blackout FAQ so this kind of thread doesn't pop up any time a game doesn't sell out.
NFL rules: If your TV market is within 75 miles of the stadium, your local station will black out the game if it does not sell out within 72 hours of kickoff.
Example, even though I live over 100 miles away from that wretched hole called Buffalo, a tiny piece of the Syracuse TV market lies within 75 miles of Wilson Stadium.
Therefore if the Bills don't sell out (luckily the Miami game always does), no Bills game on Syracuse TV even though Syracuse is over 150 miles away. Folks in Utica, almost 200 miles away get blacked out. It's BS and I feel sorry for them but that's the way the NFL became the richest pro sport.
This also includes DirecTV (which I have).
If you buy the new superfan package, you can watch the quick version of the game which is available later in the day (a DirecTV phone guy trying to sell it to me told me) so that's the only way a S. Fla fan could see a blacked out Phins game.
I feel for the people north of West Palm Beach that get blacked out, I've visited relatives in that area and it's a haul to S. Fla.
