I am wondering is it the norm to refer to the tightends as a #1 and #2 te and is it the norm to use just one te and 2 fullbacks ? the roles these positions play on the team has me wondering is it a trend to go away from the fullback and use more two te sets?
I also wonder if a 3 te set has ben used in dolphins history ?
the reason I am asking is back in 2000 we had 5 tes on the roster 6 rbs with 2 of them as fullbacks .
my preference is a two te set with 1 back in the backfield and 2 wr sets. in college the fullback is being phased out so wondered what you all though ?

we talk about wrs anmd qbs around here so i thought i would ask about you guys preference on the te and fullbacks.

Most teams have atleast 2 TEs on the roster. There is a starting TE and a backup who can be on the field as you mentioned ( 2 te set). some teams use 3 TEs in goalline situations or short yardage situations because they can block well generally and they also can be a threat to release for a pass which attempts to keep the defense honest. as far as 2 FB, usually there are 2 on the roster unless you have a TE who can play FB if the starter goes down. but im not sure why we would have ever needed 5 TE on the roster. the reason you arent seein as much FB play in college is becuz there are a lot of spread offenses being ran with speed being the most common and sought after attribute.

thanks dcrc , i know that osu went from having 2 fullbacks to none this year plus our te corp is unproven. as far as the dolphins is concerned . i dont know why we cut Lorenzo Diamond and Jason Rader they both were better then martin.
I read that in 2000 we had the following te's
Haywood Clay
Hunter Goodwin
Terence Huston
Carlos Nuno
ED perry

I though ed Perry and Hunter goodwin were good players.

Isn't there also a fad now with something of a hybrid TE/FB, ala Chris Cooley? Some of these TE's will shift into the back field to pick up blocks in the backfield.
