Well, at least he is acknowledging that he is ignorant. That is a step in the right direction. But now he has to get rid of the idiot that he hired that is supposed to know what he is doing. - and his name is Tannenbum!

Has Stephen Ross ever let money get in the way of improving the Dolphins? (Getty Images)

Stephen Ross awakened critics again this week when asked if owning an NFL franchise is harder than he thought when he purchased the Dolphins in 2009.
“A lot harder than I thought it might be,” he said.
Package that with the Dolphins’ 6-10 record last year, and their confounding offseason, and it was license for some to slap the dunce cap on Ross for the umpteenth time.
No, Steve Ross did not know all he was getting into. Guess what: There are 31 other owners who could testify to the same thing.
“You don’t know anything when you come in. You might think you do. There’s a lot of very accomplished, smart people who come into the league and they get dressed down pretty quickly.”

Stephen Ross is the same person he was from day one. He wants the team to succeed, he’s not afraid to spend money or make splashy moves. But the reality is he does not know how to help improve the team from a football standpoint. All he can do is hire the right people around him to do that and he has not made the right choices thus far IMO. The only way this works is if we have the next superstar head coach in Gase, and the jury is still out heading into year three.

Ross seems like a nice person and I believe he wants the team to win. He did hired the wrong GM

Tannenbaum has his mistakes but people forget where we were at prior to him coming. We got turned down by multiple GM's and were the place that no one wanted to go. I give him credit for giving the organization structure when we needed it. This offseason signals a changing of the guard though with Gase getting more power. If the season goes well, I could see us moving on from Mike.

I'm no expert, but I can't imagine there are many good GM candidates available. Compared to hiring a head coach there are coordinators and position coaches to choose from. An owner isn't likely to turn over control to someone inexperienced. And as previously mentioned, Miami isn't exactly a well regarded franchise anymore like under Shula

He didn't actually acknowledge he was ignorant right now. He said he was ignorant "when you come in". Fortunately, through his association with great football minds, like Carl Petersen and Mike Tannebaum, that surely has been remedied!

This forum makes me laugh.
Rick spielman was an up and coming GM, but he was persona non grata with many here. Upon his departure , I heard the usual juvenile parting shots “hot garbage, loser etc etc “
He’s built a winner in Minnesota.
Ross bought the team a year after Huizenga brought in an alleged NFL superstar in Bill Parecells. It didn’t work out.
Many times you just have to be lucky. Just ask Georgia Frontierre.

If you think that T-Dumb is a great football mind, you are more ignorant than he is.

Ross is just bad karma. Period.

His ownership tenure is self evident.

Ross is a great owner and I for one is happy as hell we have him. The man wants to win, spends any amount of money to try to accomplish that task including renovating an old stadium using his own money and still is look upon as a bad owner by some....folks can be so unappreciative sometimes.

That “Tuna” was definitely not dolphin safe.

I remember that, but I actually liked Spielman here. He made some bad trades, but he was under a lot of pressure to "win now". That comes from the owner and it's the ultimate root of the problem. Look at Hickey, no fancy moves = you're fired.

I think it’s more than just the owner or GM or HC
There has to be good chemistry and focus.
The exception is Georgia Frontiere. She was smart enough to get out of the way. I believe she also inherited the Rams from her late husband.

Exactly, look at Robert Kraft, too. But the owner hires the GM, and if the owner has chemistry with the wrong kinds of people, what can you do? I think it's like getting married, some women can't help but always end up with cheaters (or drunks or whatever). Someway, somehow, and without meaning to, it's like those are the people they have chemistry with.

The other day someone was saying after Ross's love affairs with Peterson and Tannenbaum, our next GM was sure to be Bill Polian. I couldn't help but laugh.
