I didn't get there until 4:00pm today, and I wasn't able to take any play by play notes this afternoon, but maybe tomorrow. We'll see...

I thought Harrington looked the best today, and that was mostly due to a 2:00 minute drill where he threw three straight completions, and drove the offensive within FG range in less than a minute. That one drill made the difference for me today, he nailed everything in that series, and the drive started at the <---45. His releases were quick, and he was very accurate in my opinion....

I was also very impressed with WR D. Hagan, who had more reps today due to the Booker injury. He could be turn out to be a nice surprise this year if he continues to improve. Just remember this is only mini-camp though, and many times these kinds of players don't show up once pre-season starts. I've been fooled before when it comes to judging young WR's during this time of year. So anyway, I like what I see in him, I just hope he's the real thing....

D. Culpepper made one really nice throw for about 20 yards or so, but it was on a frozen rope!!. A pass I'm sure everyone here would have loved to see, and don't worry, I'm sure as the days move on we'll see many more. His arm is really what excites me when I watch Culpepper. He can really zing it...

He was also doing some kind of drill where he would drop back, do a quick side to side pivot in the pocket, and then step into a short throw. He was basically attempting to work on his side to side movement. He's certainly doing everything he can to make it back soon, that much is obvious. Let's hope he continues....

I like what I see from QB C. Lemon as well. He's not blowing anybody away, but you can tell this guy is a good athlete who uses his quickness, and ability to make something out of nothing. I like where he is at this stage, and I certainly see why Saban was interested in him. He could surprise once pre-season gets here....

The secondary is actually looking pretty solid at this stage in my opinion. They don't always make "the play", but they're a ball hawking group who like to pick off any tipped balls. I saw more of that today. Once the real practices get underway, and everyone is in pads, we'll have a better idea of exactly how well these guys will gel, and mold as a unit, but all looks well from my chair thus far. On top of that, Capers / Saban have been putting an extra amount of focus on these players, and this area, so I'm not particularly all that worried about our secondary showing improvement this year....

O. Mare was out there banging some looooong one's today. He's a great kicker in my opinion, and we're lucky to have him...

Ronnie / Sammie looked their usual solid selves. Sammy can do it all, and he looks like he's in great shape. He and Ronnie together should be awesome, and I think Sammy is finally going to get the respect he deserves....

I kind of forgot about TE R. McMicheal, but he's having himself a very productive mini camp thus far, even yesterday he made some nice catches, but I forgot to mention him. He and Culpepper should bond very well, and they're already showing good signs of that on the field. They'll make a deadly combo once they start clicking...

Final Note : Today's practice was good, not great. I thought they looked fresher / more hungry yesterday. But rest assure that Culpepper is making progress, and he looks sharp at this stage. It's still VERY early, and there's much to do in between now and the start of pre-season. These are great days we're having, and there's more to come....

It's difficult to see who's doing what when they're all running around back there. Plus, they practice on the field that is opposite the stands, so it's tough to get a birdz eye on the action. I'll try to do more scouting of the secondary tomorrow....

Hill appeared to injure his ankle and had to be carted off the field. Will Allen is very fast and during the am practice he picked off a nice pass intended for C Chambers. I am also impressed with the offense they looked very explosive.

Hill was back on the field in the afternoon, but did not participate. That said, I cant imagine why he would even be out there if it was a very serious injury.

From these last two days of mini-camp, it looks like the depth chart at WR goes #1 Chambers #2 Booker #3 Welker #4 Campbell/Hagan. After Booker hurt himself, Hagan showed up on the radar more. I am thinking that will be Hagan's role this season. He will backup Chambers and Booker.

That #3 WR spot has been a big question for me this offseason. Right now, it looks like Saban and Mularkey may be thinking about moving Campbell back to return kicks. They love his speed and think he has big-play making ability. Welker might acually see more time ar WR in the slot. I'm sure he will still get to return some kicks as well. But 2006 looks to be a flip-flop from last year where Welker spent more time returning kicks than at WR.

My Mini-mini report on the afternoon session

I was there also-I saw Mare miss many field goals especially from 50 and out which was most of what he did

Culpepper moved and threw well and seemed to have a strong connection with Kelly Campbell

Joey seemed to have equally good timing with, strangely, Frank Murphy

Renaldo Hill was out there-Booker was nowhere to be found-Travis in red

Vick did nothing

Brock looked like Brock

Jason Allen picked off...uuhhh Joey I think...and "took it to the house"-as much as you can in shells anyway

Manny Wright is fat and out of shape as advertised and was clearly on the coaches' sh-t list

Hagans was returning kickoffs with Shirdonya Mitchell beside him

Ronnie looked really quick for a big back-but not as quick as Gerald Riggs Jr.

Eddie Moore is the king of the stationary bike, as stated elsewhere-he beat Rodrique Wright by a country mile (R Wright just ahead of M Wright in the muscle/jelly ratio)-Moore also was doing some pretty crazy stretches on the sidelines

Oh, and Cleo has made some progress-not as strong as Joey but close-but he's still named after my ex's (female) cat

Thanks for the report. I saw Travis Daniels was wearing a red jersey in one of the videos. Does anyone know why???
