Was watching the '72 undefeated season on NFLN (awesome if you haven't already watched it) and was wondering if anyone knows Manny's measurables. The guy is HUGE! Tried looking it up, but I keep getting an NHL player or some other guy named Manny who played for the Chiefs. Maybe some of the old-timers on here know?

Thanks!

I've got the 2 Super Bowls on DVD. I'll go back and watch them to see if they say.

They showed him riding on one of those hydrofoil boats through the Everglades during the 1972 season.....I like his fu manchu moustache. He seems like a great guy.

Granted, back then, I would say that was a pretty good size for a DT. He is not small, by any means.

On the vid, he looked a helluva lot bigger than 6'2". That's why I asked. He just seemed to engulf ball carriers.

Manny was also one of the quickest DT to play the game at that time. My most rememberable play of his was when he stole the hand off from Joe Ferguson before he could turn and hand it off to the running back.

In Super Bowl VII, he was surprised the Redskins tried to block him one-on-one because noone had tried that all season. That was the first of many mistakes the 'Skins made that day.

Manny and Jim Kiick are two of the Dolphins that comes to mind that sported that style. Shula didn't allow his players to wear beards so that was the next best thing.

Measurables from the back of a topps card

height: 6'2"
weight: 248
college: Utah

" Manny has probably his most outsanding game as a pro in Super Bowl VII when he was credited with 11 tackles despite being double-teamed much of the time. Manny compensates for his lack of height with quickness, mobility and strenghth. Came to the Dolphins as a free agent, 1968."

I met him in 1978 or so at Aqua golf in Pembroke Pines. He was really a nice guy, he put up with me and a couple of friends asking him all kinds of questions.

Weird that it would say he was double teamed. I watched the perfect season last night and he said he wa surprised he got single coverage and that it was the first time that season that he did.

Consider the average weight of football players at the time, that could make him look bigger.

Two points on this thread conflict. Someone said he was surprised to be played one-on-one in Super Bowl VII (which I remember seeing in America's Game) but the other stat that gives his height and all that says he had an outstanding game despite being double teamed.

airboat... hydrofoils don't work so hot on sawgrass

back then it was a normal size..... When Pittsburgh started winning their Super Bowls size started to shoot up... Now we know why.... They are the first team started using Steriods....

Thanks Marlon Perkins of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

furthermore, there are differences between "glades" airboats and "lake" airboats... if sawgrass even "touches" you at 60 mph, you are cut to the bone, hence the skirt on the bow. Manny cruised around the glades in one like Butch's here.
