Former NFL Coach Don Coryell died tonight from complications of pneumonia at the age of 85. He is best remembered for leading the then St. Louis Cardinals to consecutive NFC East Division Championships in 1974 and 1975, and later coaching the San Diego Chargers and leading his 'Air Coryell' offense with Dan Fouts from 1978 through 1986. :(

A true offensive mastermind if there ever was one. He and Bill Walsh were definately two men that changed the offensive landscape of the NFL. Rest In Peace, Coach.

I loved those Air Coryell teams. If SD had had just a halfway decent defense during those years they might have actually made it to a SB. Fouts, Jefferson, Chandler, Winslow, Joiner, Muncie, Brooks....whew, great offensive talents! Coryell had some good ones in St. Louis too with Hart, Metcalf, Mel Gray and Dierdorf and Dobler up front. The guy knew offense! RIP, Mr. Coryell
