RAIDERS LOWBALL QUINN
There's a potentially intriguing story developing at the top end of the draft. On Tuesday, we reported that the Raiders are negotiating with quarterback JaMarcus Russell, receiver Calvin Johnson, and quarterback Brady Quinn at the top of the draft.
As we reported roughly an hour ago on an unexpected (but much appreciated) appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, a league source tells us that the Raiders have made a "lowball" offer to Quinn.

If he wants to go #1 he might accept that lowball offer. Think how that would affect the pay of the rest of the picks..

Well I guess his thinking could be, why go #1 if you dont get the $$$, I thought that is why draft prospects want to go high, more $$$

Yeah if I was Quinn and they were offering me 55 million instead of 62 million, I'd be insulted and run from that deal. LOL!!!!

They are just using him as leverage on the other two guys, so they may think of accepting lower offers. I don't think I have ever heard of a team drafting the #1 pick based on who took less money, but who knows these days.

I think they already know who they want and are looking for ways to get him as cheap as possible.

Isn't that exactly what happened last year with Mario and Bush?

Remember the salaries for rookies in the NFL is the most overpriced, ridiculous, insane pay scale in all professional sports. Granted football players have the shortest careers but c'mon how much is "potential" worth? There should be at least a 2 year salary cap, and if they produce the pay should go up accordingly. The way it is now is absolutely crazy. Particularly 1st round picks, if they flop, they kill the team's cap and the fans hate them.

He's the best fit for that offense. Expect Condon to counter under pressure from Quinn and the player agency CAA to nab that #1 overall pick.

thats what happened wiht bush n mario last year. plus quinn isn't fancy and we konw al davis likes fancy plyares but then again you never know. i just think its for leverage.

Calvin Johnson will accept a cheaper contract knowing he might go 4th overall if not choosen by the Raiders.

I have been afraid of this possibility for a while. Quinn would accept less money only he is sure he won't be drafted in the top three. After that the salaries take a dip that gets even worse after #5. See link to Peter King article that shows last year salaries at the bottom of the first page.

Plus, Quinn would be a perfect fit for the West Coast offense favored by the new Raiders coaching staff.

Finally, PFW has yet another mock showing just this, but guess what, they have Russell coming to us.

Way off on that. Cleveland will nab him at 3, without a doubt.
