The NFL Network’s Mike Mayock, generally one of the more respected draft analysts around and a guy who was linked to the Raiders a couple years back as a potential personnel hire, had a surprise pick for Oakland with the No. 7 overall pick.

Virtually everyone who has Oakland picking a wide receiver has the Raiders selecting either Texas Tech’s Michael Crabtree or Missouri’s Jeremy Maclin.
Mayock paired the Raiders with Maryland’s Darius Heyward-Bey.

I have the utmost faith in Mayock ... but it's early. He's going to change his picks several times over the next 3 weeks, and this is one of them. Oakland might take Macklin over Crabtree, but I'd be very surprised to see them stay where they are and pick DHB that high ... he just doesn't have the production to merit anything close to that. If they want DHB, they'll trade down with someone. I could even see them trading with Denver and violating the same-division taboo just to grab DHB at 12 and someone like Michael Johnson at 18.

These announcers get paid to make these picks, but they know that if they never change their picks there's no reason to put them on TV, so they change them a little every week ... and I doubt they give their 100% honest estimation every week, but rather just explain a few possible scenarios so that whomever is picked it was always one of the guys they had projected there at some point. The Raiders will not take DHB at that spot ... if they do I'll be truly shocked.

Nonetheless, it does make sense. Tall, big, ultra fast- right up Al Davis' alley.

i could see that scenerio, seeing that it would give the Broncos an oppurtunity to chase stafford, where him to fall to the 8th spot or mark sanchez, seeing that san francisco and Buffalo might both be looking to upgrade as quarterback as well

Good point, but would the Raiders do a deal that would help the Broncos solidifty their QB position? Arch enemies and all...

Al Davis gaining 2 1st round draft picks and a possibility to throw away more money for young talent... need i say more?

Yeah, say more of the thought of the Raiders passing on Stafford, letting the Broncos get him, and reliving the nightmare of passing on Jay Cutler for the immortal Michael Huff all over again. In hindsite, in foresite, in the moment that he did it it was a douchebag move by Davis. Even if he took Leinart and it didn't work out, he still should have pulled the trigger. You don't help your arch enemy land a potential franchise Quarterback, that's why he shouldn't deal with the Broncos this year. Better of letting them reach for Josh Freeman or roll with Kyle Orton.

That's Al Davis we all know. He found a pocket of sanity and shrewd business dealings while negotiating with us and then back out the window it goes.
