Raiders | No contact with Russell
Fri, 23 Feb 2007 10:38:19 -0800
NFL draft prospect QB JaMarcus Russell (LSU) said he has not been contacted by the Oakland Raiders, who hold the first overall selection in the 2007 NFL Draft this year, during an interview at the NFL Scouting Combine Friday, Feb. 23.

It gets even more interesting, could the Raiders be targeting Johnson.Ill say it once and Ill say it again the Raiders dont drafting QBs with the 1st rd pick.

NFL draft prospect QB JaMarcus Russell (LSU) measured in at 6-foot-5 1/2, 265 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine Friday, Feb. 23. During an interview, Russell mentioned his farthest throw has been over 80 yards and that he has played quarterback since he was 6 years old.

Calvin has been saying all week he'll be #1.

That would put us in such a better position to get one of those 2 QB's...Although noone even knows for sure what anyone is going to do including us. We could go either OL or QB (which is what I think our top needs are) and noone can even be sure about that. Its all speculation god i cant wait for the draft

Hopefully they take Johnson and cause a chain reaction in the top ten. It definitely increases the likelihood that either Russell or Quinn will be available at nine.

Main thing, Russell does not fall to us... game in and game out, I don't think he will be a consistent QB in the NFL.

hope they pick quinn!

Hope they pick Calvin Johnson, Russell could go to Cleveland and Quinn could come to us.

Oakland might want to address many of their other needs, like WR, thru the draft and address the need for a QB thru FA. With Brooks gone, the need is clear. I doubt Al Davis has the patience and time to wait for a rookie QB to develop and produce. They might even go for Carr or Schaub.

Al Davis would have to be an complete idiot to not draft Russell, heck, I'd say we trade up to get him.

:dj2:

I wouldn't read too much into this. Maybe the exact reason they're not "contacting" him is because that's who they really one, but since everyone already knows that, it's a little more fun to create speculation JMO. Knews like this could cause teams to start thinking about trading up if it appears that the Raiders will pass on Russell. I won't believe it until somebody else's name gets called first.

If that's true, it might make Quinn's slip easier for us especially if Detroit nabs him. But then a team that was considering WR might try to trade down to a team that could use a QB (i.e. Tampa). But most likely, it could drop Quinn to us.

If this does happen, so many options could fall to us. Joe Thomas as well, if the top 3 take Quinn, Russell, and Johnson, We might have a good shot at Joe Thomas. I cannot wait until the draft. This is stressful, what do you think the likelyhood is that Thomas falls to us?

Interesting, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Raiders take CJ, seems more likely for Al Davis. I wonder what they have in mind for QB though? Stick with Walter?
