Given RM’s stated attributes he looks for in a player and his penchant for looking at the larger schools, particularly early, Houcks OL preferences and CC’s history, certain “type†players fit better than others. For instance A. Okoye is a top 15 guy but does not fit well in this D. My personal preference is that we trade back if there are any takers and pick up an extra #2. If that were to happen IMHO there are some mid level round 1 guys that I would think would be targets, such as.
R. Meacham-speed guy at a position of need, that would be a reach at #9.
J. Moss- Plays much like JT and could give outside pass rush that RM covets.
P. Willis-playmaker but #9 is too early.
C. Houston-Again playmaker and #9 “might†be too early. I can see him getting plucked in the 9-12 range….
A. Carriker-The only solid “cover†end with R1 grades but again #9 is too early.
D. Bowe-Slower than RM would like but has enough speed and @15-22 a good pick IMHO.
Round 1 @ #9
T. Ginn Jr.-Do not like this as I feel (IMOO) #9 is too early…plenty of speed.
L. Landry-Solid #9 and if the staff feels Allen is a CB team with Bell for a solid S combo.
B. Quinn_discussed enough but IMHO he does not make it this far anyway.
A. Branch-A possibility although DT is not the largest need if we cannot trade back he may be the best player there @ #9.
G. Adams-Less like JT than Moss is and does not have the AA but is a more solid DL player.
L. Brown-IMHO it may come down to Brown or Branch, Branch the better player OLT the bigger need…if we cannot trade back. IMHO Brown is a 12-15 type pick and Branch a solid 7-10.
Round 2
R. Kalil-SERIOUSLY doubt he gets this far but would be nice BAA and a position of need. He would be a no brainer at our #2 pick.
T. Ugoh-a solid LT that is more “all over the board†than some.. solid in my book
S. Rice- Lack of 4.4 speed drops him some but if you need a WR he may be the best left and 4.51 ain’t slow.
B. Siler-May make it this far but hard to project where exactly he fits in this D. Productive player for that slot.
D. Jarrett-IMHO he DOES drop this far…I doubt his speed and his pro day will be interesting..I am not a Jarrett fan.
P. Polsnusky-Not a “natural†OLB but can play 4-3 or 3-4 inside and probably play OK at OLB….just a good player here if he is available which I think he will be.
D. Stanton-Talk about him in round 1 may be accurate but IMHO he is not worth a pick above 35 or so…..if he is there he is about where he should be and QB is a position of concern.
Rounds 3-5
S. Piscitelli-Big, smart and productive…unreal athlete..might be a #2….
J. Hill-Speed..but plays slower than his 4.35…
S. Satele-Big OL like Houck likes with a mean streak.
E. Weddle-Big safety with good range. Great combine.
J. Cohen-Natural DT/NT that is a run defender primarily
N. Harris-Speed LB…..OLB
J. Marteen-Big frame and strong like HH likes.
D. Sartz-Smart OLB that can run some.
T. Shaw-Missed somewhat because he played DL but reminds me of Bruschi..ran much better than most anticipated at combine
D. Upsera-Big, Strong and a little nasty also.
S. Heyer-Huge underachiever type with very good skills..not as “nasty†as some other targets.
D. Wynn-Good inside runner much like R. Brown..physical and enough speed to get the corner…solid hands.
M. Ramirez-Another large inside lineman
C. Henry-Great workout….and huge upside…won’t move into round 2 because he simply did not play enough at Arizona.
A. Allison-Speed and one of the fastest 10 yard splits..not as big as M. Walker although they are a lot alike.
M. Walker-See A. Allison…Walker is less developed as he played DB as a Fr/So.
K. Kolb-a smart leader type with enough arm…
C. Leak-Smart, leader..does he have enough arm and size….close to Drew Brees size so CC should not be scared off.
T. Edwards-highly intelligent tough and played hurt…good leader on a team that sucked pond water.
Rounds 5-7
L. Hill, C, NC State-Stout limited area player much like Hadnot and maybe even not that athletic but he can flat dominate a big NT like everyone has in our division. A center ONLY.
T. Bain-Speed small school and worth a 6-7 because of his upside
J. Daniels-Smart versatile guy that reminds me of Travis Daniels
D. Schoumann-Very underrated TE by “us†wannabes. Solid intermediate receiver with good hands that showed enough speed to make you think that his ability as a senior to get downfield was not an aberration. Average effort blocker.
M. Mason-All everything HS recruit than ended up at a small school. Great speed decent size and can return kicks.
Y. Figures-Speed and ST’s..might make a great slot/motion role receiver and what more do you want in the 6-7 range.
S. Stephenson-Same type player as Hill but not quite as good IMHO…Strong limited area player that is limited to center.
