Just some things that come to mind as story lines so far.
1. Disrespected
The NFL is a what have you done lately league so it's not surprising that Miami is forecast to be really bad by many so-called experts. But seeing Tannehill ranked so low among quarterbacks after going 7-1 with a quarterback rating over 100 in his last eight starts makes no sense. In a way, this is probably good for the team. They have a lot to prove.
2. Offense has to take off
The injury to Tannehill last year and some poor offensive line play has handicapped Gase in his first two years, but with the additions on offense there's no more excuses. To me, the offense is the story line of the year. The talent is there IMO to be at least a little above average on offense and with Gase being considered an offensive genius it should be even better than that. Miami needs to jump on teams, establish a lead and give the defense a chance.
3. Defensive line is the weak link?
The run defense has been talked about quite a bit this offseason and it all begins with the defensive line. I like the talent at defensive end, at least in terms of pass rushing with Wake, Quinn and Harris. Even the interior of the line has players who can get after the quarterback. Run defense is partly about being assignment sound, playing good team ball etc. But sometimes it comes down to man versus man and to me it looks like Miami's line could be pushed around. This is the area I think will receive the most attention in terms of top draft picks over the next several years.
4. Lots of young talent
Everywhere you look there is intriguing young talent that can really make this season interesting. On the offensive line there is Tunsil and Davis. Drake has already started to emerge and looks like a potential superstar. Grant, Parker and Wilson are three wide receivers with upside. Harris, Phillips and Godchaux are the youngsters on the defensive line, McMillan and Baker at linebacker, Fitzpatrick, Howard, Tankersley, Lippett, McKyer should make the secondary pretty good.
