Starks might have been my favorite of the free agent signees. He was very young when he was drafted, so he still has a ton of potential to go with a few years of experience. I would not be surprised at all if won a starting spot, but even if he doesn't he should get significant amount of reps throughout the course of the game with his versatility. I think that he just got stuck behind some talented linemen in Tennessee (Haynesworth, Vanden Bosche, La Boy) and wasn't given enough of a chance.

at the moment on the Fins DL, this will not be a problem...

For a team lacking young talent due to some poor drafts, this kind of signing can truly make a real impact.

Hope he turns into our NT for the next 10 years. Love the versatility he provides as well, with the ability to play 3-4 DT, DE or 4-3 DT.

I don't think anyone is ruling him out as a starter in fact I think most everyone are penciling him in as a starter.

His contract was pretty significant.

Starks is no DE IMO. He was signed as a NT to groom under Ferguson. I actually think he may start and Ferguson rotates in. They paid this kid alot of money to play. Miami is not short on DE's - we don't need Starks there - we need NT's! I hope that Solai got a big wake up call when they brought in Ferguson and Starks. IMO he has to have a very good camp to stay around. He has great size and it seems no heart. I can't imagine going through a game without a tackle let alone most of a season. They practically overhauled the whole DL in one offseason.

What do you mean "every indication"? I think we'll learn a lot when they line up at mini camp. I do remember reading, however, that they felt he could be a 'top reserve' at all of the DL positions. That includes NT, presumably.

With the additions of Langford and Merling, I wouldnt be surprised if the plan with Starks has changed considerably since he was first signed. We shall see, I guess.

That he is. So is Soliai. And JT is listed as a DE when he is an OLB in this scheme. And Jason Allen as a CB/S, when Sparano said he would be a safety.

I wouldnt reach much into that.

All of those guys are holdovers and their positions have yet to be updated from how they were listed a year ago. When updating the web page's roster, they had to give the guy names and positions specifically. Jason Ferguson was given the position DT and Randy Starks was given the position DE. Pretty much tells you all you need to know.

Starks was also given a $21 million contract with $7 million in bonus. Pretty similar to what Vonnie Holliday got a year ago. You think that's a contract for a "top backup"?
