Afceastchampions08 gave me an idea, let's do a rank the Miami Dolphins coaches thread. Or maybe it's so easy even a Jests fan could do it?

My take:
  1. Shula. Most. Wins. Ever. 'Nuff said.
  2. Sparano. This is a preliminary ranking based on worst to first in the AFC East, but his competition didn't put up much of a fight.
  3. Johnson. To me there is a HUGE gulf between 2 and 3. I could live with him lower based on the disappointment factor and leaving us Wannstead. We expected more from Jimmy..
  4. Saban. While Saban has had success as a college coach, he did some serious damage to the Phins.
  5. Wannstead. I just don't think he is a good head coach (even at Pitt he is not setting the world on fire). Abysmal drafting.
  6. Wilson (George Wilson, first coach of the Dolphins). Poor record, though it was an expansion team, fired to hire Shula.
  7. Cameron. Say no more. Please...

honestly i would flip saban and wannstead... as much as it pains me to say it. Wanny won alot more games than Saban, Even though his drafts absolutely sucked!

Good idea. And i agree...thats exactly where i would rank them....

PS: I forgot about wilson.

Phinswin i believe if saban was the coach of this team long enough, he would have had a better record than wanny. Therefore IMO he is a better coach.

Saban is a better football coach than wannstedt both at the college level and pros.

And he is a liar at the same time.

Wilson was the toughest to grade-they were just as bad as Camerons team , probabley worse, but they were an expansion team.

Ugh.. this is going to be depressing. (I never saw Wilson coach a game so I'll leave him out of this)

1. Shula
2. Sparano

And now for the debacles in descending order of pathetic:
3. Johnson
|
|
4. Wannstedt
|
5. Cameron
6. Saban

1. Don Shula - Obviously

2. Tony Sparano - Helped changed the culture of losing, earned the respect of the players, the trust of a jaded fanbase, and won an AFC East title in his first year.

3. Jimmy Johnson - Drafted Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Sam Madison, and Patrick Surtain. Other than that, there isn't much else to speak of.

4. George Wilson - He didn't get a lot of wins as the first ever head coach of the Dolphins, but he did bring in a lot of those players that helped make the Dolphins the team that they became in the early 70's.

5. Nick Saban - Drafted Ronnie Brown in 2005, and implemented a defense that helped Jason Taylor earn NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2006. Other than that, he is a snake, a worm, a liar, and will pretty much go down as one of the biggest villians in the history of South Florida sports.

6. Dave Wannstedt - Terrible head coach, and even a worse GM. Put way too much faith in a noodle armed quarterback that may have had a lot of heart, but he didn't have the football IQ to match. Botched drafts, conservative play-calling, and just an overall goofy demeanor that is not fit for a head coach.

7. Cam Cameron - What more needs to be said that hasn't been already? This man (and that's a term I use lightly) had the personality of a 1960's television sitcom father. Cam is more suited to be a life coach instead of an NFL head coach. He drafted perhaps one of the worst quarterbacks in Dolphins history: John Beck. An older prospect, that was a total square out of BYU who turned out to be nothing more than a scared little wuss who couldn't garner the respect of his teammates and couldn't hold onto the football even if you put hot glue on his hands. Cam Cameron and John Beck were pretty much a real life version of Andy and Opie Taylor from the old Andy Griffith Show. A horrible game manager, a horrible motivator, and a man who never really had authority from the get go. I never thought anybody could have been worse than Wannstedt, but Cam managed to do just that. Cam talked too much about families, church, and being good little boys. He should have spent more time on X's and O's.

#1. Shula-Of course
#2.J.Johnson-Drafted us some all-time great Dolphins
#3.D.Wanstedt-Critisized way too much, His coaching records with Fins, 11-5, 11-5, 9-7,10-6,4-12. The best QB he ever had to work with was J Feidler
#4. Sparano-Looks like he'll be # 2 soon
#5. Wilson-Started it all
#6. Saban-Traiter
#7. Cameron-Disgraced our team

What about Jim Bates? I know he only filled in part time but the team did play better with him as the coach.

As far as I am concerned there is only one coach to even rank and thats Don Shula. The rest were basically jokes. Way too early to even talk about ranking Sparano. Im sure after year one you could say the same things about Saban only thing he did not come behind a coach as bad as Cameron.

That's because it was the ONLY quarterback he wanted to work with.

so true. Maybe if he had drafted a qb he would have possibly done a better job. He just handed the job to a backup that should have never been an NFL starter. He cut Marino to play this inferior qb and continually ignored the position

  1. The Don...The greatest coach ever!
  2. Jimmy Johnson. Great coach. Brought defense back to Miami. Failed Marino though.
  3. Tony Sparano (Can't elevate him to number 2 after only one season...not yet)
  4. George Wilson (He laid the base for Don Shula to build upon)
  5. Jim Bates (Took over mid season in a BAD situation and did pretty good based on the situation
  6. Dave Wannstedt (Sucked as head coach)
  7. Nick Saban (Could have been great had his heart been in it. Should have never left LSU)
  8. Cam Cameron. Defacto choice. Worst season ever. Great OC, but not HC material

Not enough sample size to really rank Sparano. I think Shula is the clear number one obviously. Everyone hates Nick Saban but he's not a bad coach because of his decision. Cameron's sample size is a lot like Sparano's but it's tough to argur for a one win season. Personally, I want to put that scumbag Dave Wannstedt dead last because I can't stand that prick. I want that ****ers kids little league teams to lose.
