One of the consequences of a lost NFL season will be an increase in crime, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis said in a wide-raging one-on-one interview with ESPN.

"Do this research if we don't have a season -- watch how much evil, which we call crime, watch how much crime picks up, if you take away our game," Lewis told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.

That's because, Lewis said, the NFL lockout affects "way more than us" -- the owners and the players.

"There's too many people that live through us, people live through us," he said. "Yeah, walk in the streets, the way I walk the streets, and I'm not talking about the people you see all the time."

When asked why he thought crime would increase if the NFL doesn't play games this year, Lewis said: "There's nothing else to do Sal."

Sunday is Day 68 of the lockout, which is now the longest work stoppage in NFL history. Lewis said the current dispute boils down to a matter of ego.

Effing love Ray Lewis. I don't care if he went to The U or not, that guy makes EVERYTHING he speaks about seem so life-threatening and serious. He's so passionate when he speaks. I love it. When they were talking about Ray possibly speaking in court about these labor issues...I was thinking man I would pay money and buy a ticket to listen to him in court. I hope he does motivational speaking after his career. Maybe him and Ed will come coach defense at The U in the end. Dude is just so intense.

He's tutoring that MLB from Arizona State right now for Dennis Erickson. He's probably one of my all-time favorite players, college and pro.

That's his name. Yeah, he should be a good one. I think I read he was the most highly touted player on D to come to ASU in a long time.

Ya, watching him play I see a lot of similarities to Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs in him.

Is this a threat Ray?

Lets make an Ol' spice commerical out of this.

Not real sure how anyone can consider what Ray is saying as ironic or hilarious. Ray Lewis is the (not one of, the) most upright, respectful, hardest working and passionate player I have ever seen play the game.

Not the greatest video, but that's not the point here.
