I have been looking around the league at some of the best RBs in league in their rookie season followed by their 2nd year (or sophomore year). I found some interesting results. Keep in mind i only put in players who were the starters both their 1st and 2nd years.

Ronnie Brown-
(R) season- Att:207 Yds: 907 Tds: 4 Ave: 4.4 Only played 14 games, 4.4 Ave
2nd year- ???

LaDainian Tomlinson-
(R) season- Att: 339 Yds: 1236 Tds: 10 Ave: 3.6
2nd year- Att: 372 Yds: 1683 Tds: 14 Ave: 4.5 significant improvement

Edgerin James-
(R) season- Att:369 Yds:1553 Tds: 13 Ave: 4.2
2nd year- Att: 387 Yds: 1709 Tds: 13 Ave: 4.4 had a GREAT (R) year but still improvement (kind of a bad example of the point im tryin to prove)

Ricky Williams-
(R) season- Att: 253 Yds: 884 Tds: 2 Ave: 3.5 played 12 games
2nd year- Att: 248 Yds: 1000 Tds: 8 Ave: 4.0 played 10 games. big improvments

Rudi Johnson- only got 17 carries in (R) season
2nd year- Att: 215 Yds:957 Tds: 9 Ave: 4.5
3rd year- Att: 361 Yds: 1454 Tds:12 Ave:4.0

Ok so my point is, some of the best RBs were handed the ball in their first season. They improved signicantly in their 2nd season. Ronnie had a great year spliting carries. Im trying to say that Ronnie will run wild next year. Break out year for Ronnie in 2006.

GO FINS!

If ronnie is still sharing carries im not sure we will be able to judge him by next season either

great post.since ricky will be gone probably he will get the load and do well

I really doubt Ricky will be gone. We could use the R&R for atleast a couple of years. Than when Ricky leaves Ronnie will become one of the elite backs in the league.

thats a very good point. but you got to like what you saw this season and he only gets better next year right? and if a guy spliting carries gets 1000 yards, thats a huge value

That is unless we trade away Ricky. But nice research Aqua.

IMO we should keep Ricky, but give RB the bulk of the carries next year.

If we sign a big-time WR(Owens), we should trade Ricky to ensure that we can turn into a passing team that can take full advantage of every run.

if ricky and ronnie share carries again next year i expect around 900 yards from both of them and about 6-7 from both and about a 4-5 yards per carry average, a big reason why they average more per carry is because the rest they both recieve while the other is in, i believe the team benefits more from having bot hof them then one of them in some ways

I think ronnie excells next year reguardless of what we do with ricky. Ronnie will become more of a game changer, instead of just a role playing guy. Next year there will be games where Ronnie takes the team on his back.

:yeahthat:

I think Ricky will be here next season AND will be the Dolphins leading rusher.

IMHO we should keep Ricky. But, if we did Ronnie would be the leading rusher and feature back not Ricky. Just my .10 worth.

Im excited to see what Ronnie will do with a full year under his belt but we should still keep RW. There's too many injuries at the RB position on a year in and year out basis. You really need 2-3 good RB's on your roster at any given time anyway and Rw isnt making a salary that would be unappropriate for a backup

Or 4, in the case of the Panthers.
