Draft:
NT - Jason Ferguson - starter (draft pick)
DE - Kendal Langford - starter
DE - Philip Merling - starting rotation... backup to Holliday... potential to be better than Langford and Holliday.
TE - Anthony Fasano - starter (draft pick)
OT - Jake Long - starter
OG - Donald Thomas - starter
OG - Shawn Andrews - backup
RB - Jalen Parmele - backup
QB - Chad Henne - backup
RB - Lex Hilliard - practice squad

6 starters and 3 backups... 3 starters is a great draft. 6 starters is phenomenal.

In hindsight, Mueller had terrible drafts... worse than Spielman. However, Mueller had a tendency to get rid of high-priced players... leaving us in a good cap situation.

As for Jeff Ireland... I didn't like some of the free-agency signings... but things are looking up. Way up. The defense looks fixed. Richmond Webb has finally been replaced. We've got a new QB who offers some hope. He's starting to look like a genius.

A but things are looking up. Way up. The defense looks fixed..

With all due respect, that's just crazy...... The defense has not been fixed.. If you don't believe me, wait until next offseason (and the draft) to see all the moves we make on defense.. This is far FAR from being a Parcells defense that he wants to go to war with for a championship.

He got us a few pluggers that could pass us through a season of being an average to slightly below average defense, a couple young players for the future that look promising, but this isn't anywhere near being a defense that's "fixed" with the goals this regime has in mind for the next few years.

I mean, people can like Ferguson all they want , but he's old and on his last legs... I take the NT's of the Jets (Jenkins who's been a stud and only 28), Stroud on Buffalo and the Pats NT anyday of the week and twice on Sunday over ours.. Everyone in our division is stronger and better........ And that's only one position..... We need a lot of work throughout the defense. Getting the 2 young ends in the draft was a decent start, but there is A LOT more work to be done to fix this defense the way this regime wants it fixed.

Jenkins WAS a stud 4 years ago... he is OK but I would not call him a stud.

Kris Jenkins has been unblockable in camp against Mangold and Faneca.. And he totally abused the Browns starting O-line the other night. He has been nothing short of terrific. He is better than Ferguson. And younger... Go to any Jets message board who follow the ins and outs of the team, and the majority of them will tell you he has been by far their best defensive player in camp.. He is absolutely dominating the line of scrimmage..

and while they try to win now.. with a team not ready to win anything spectacular, they wont have many picks to draft their future.. the jets have doomed theirselves, while miami has done something that will enevitably lead them to the top once again.. I mean "f" the jets.. they can suck a big chadiso.. and as to furgy not being better than stroud, he can suck one 2.. forget this year.. or even next year because the patriots and the colts are too strong, along with the chargers and the jaguars... plus the bills are coming on strong along with the browns and the texans.. not to mention the titans, and the soon to be amazing raiders.. shoot the bengals, and the broncos have a better chance than the dolphins.. miami will once again be one of the worst teams in the nfl the next few seasons but, they will start to dominate come 2010! so just enjoy the ride because you are watching a dynasty team being built!

Grey - I need to say him during the season to change my mind. he is injury prone and seems to disappear in games becuase of stamina issues ( just ask panthers fans and they will tell you this).

Also keep in mind he is changing positions from DT to NT.. that is not an easy transition by any stretch.

Vince wilfork I agree with you, he along with jamal williams are probably the best NT's in the game.. God I wished we drafted wilfork

Umm, where have I debated that ? I think the Jets way of doing things this offseason is the wrong approach.. They should have built through the draft.. But that still doesn't have anything to do with Kris Jenkins absolutely dominating out there and being a terrific football player, which he is..

Yes, you need to see him play. He has been nothing short of outstanding. And I know all about his injury history.. Ferguson has them too, he only played in one game last year, and he's 33, not 28 ( actually Jenkins just turned 29 last week)..

Also keep in mind he is changing positions from DT to NT.. that is not an easy transition by any stretch.
Not only does he have the mammoth size to make the transition easier at over 340 pounds, but he has proven it on the field by dominating any O-lineman he faces in the 3-4... And Mangold and Faneca (and Cleveland's starting O-line), who he has gone up against and dominated, are not chopped liver

I do agree that we need to find a replacement for Ferg in the draft or FA next yr. But I do think this FO has done the best job of getting the players we need at the right price to at least be competitive. Unlike the Jets who sold the future of the franchise down the river to save their own skin.

You realize if we have 6 rookies come into camp and lock down starting spots, then the overall level of talent on this team is the worst it's been since the expansion draft?

The panthers didn't seem to be too upset about trading him. He was a very good player several yrs back, but he's proven to be unreliable for one reason or another.
BTW, Vonnie Holiday has been unblockable too. He's having a terrific camp Until the hamstring strain).

We were 1-15, I'm surprised we didn't draft 10 starters!!!!!!

6 starters is an indication of our starting point than anything else. Langford and Merling looked good though and Jake Long is not really being spoken about so for a LT thats no bad thing. Lets be honest though our defense is nowhere near fixed, lets not pick too many holes though, we're work in progress, we got younger since end of last year but this is a team that could easily win 1-3 games this year.
