Why are so many people seemingly obsessed with the Dolphins finding a franchise QB? Manning, Marino, Brady are not walking through that door anytime soon. Look
at how many years went by before the Broncos went from Elway to Brady or how many years it took for the Pats to go from Grogan to Bledsoe to Brady. In the last 10 yrs there have been maybe 16 players that were either franchise QB or somewhere on the borderline. Many of those borderline franchise QB won super bowls and many of those franchise Qb's never won any. Nobody is going to trade you for one and no one is letting a legitimate one walk in FA. If you got a good QB like the
Romo's, Alex Smith's of the world that is just going to have to be good enough. You put a top 5 defensive, o-line and some very good WR which are much easier to get than a franchise QB then you are a legitimate superbowl contenter with a better than average too good QB. Tanny can be better than average too good maybe not great but that's ok. I'm a realist and logical person not an emotional thinker like most sports fans. If Tanny gets a little more compentant on the deep ball ok so maybe not Elway good on the deep ball but better than Jay Fielder then we have something too work with.

Around here they are talked about like they are leafs on trees. I totally agree much more realistic to put solid team together than have a Brady or Manning and those two still need a compliment to get it all done. Keep the D building year in and out, stay focused on scheme based o lineman that are coached up and sprinkle some playmakers in and we can compete on a year in year out basis.

Broncos went from Elway to Brady? Stopped readying right there.

I would disagree that Flacco and Eli are "borderline" franchise QBs, arguably they're not elite, but they are franchise. So that means over the last 20 years or so only one non-franchise QB won the SB but it took one of the greatest defenses ever to achieve that.

Nevermind how many actually come out in the draft maybe 1 or 2 a year. There is so much bad QB play. Look around the leauge we are lucky to have Tanny. There aren't too many other starting Qb's that are better than him. Most people put him in the middle about 10-16th best qb. And there isn't anyone in college that looks that much better that we have a realistic shot of obtaining unless we sell our whole draft.

psfign I'm not offended by internet bullies lol. I'm a computer science major writing learning some pretty complicated stuff I don't need too qualify my intelligence too anyone.

When talking about "franchise quarterbacks" its a good idea to settle on a mutual definition.
Does it mean a certain Hall of Famer?
Or does it mean the QB is good enough to build a team around him, lasts a decade + with the same team, and takes his team to the playoffs on a regular basis and perhaps a Super Bowl?
Or does it mean something else? To me it is option #2. Its too early to tell if Tannyhill is/will be a franchise QB. But I think he has a shot.

@undefeated A franchise QB too me is someone that is usually considered someone who can carry a team if need be and he usually with some exceptions would be in a conversation about great qb's or hall of fame.

Thats where you would differ. In 1 to 2 years I can see tannehill being that carry on the back in situations guy. No doubt about it given his trajectory and consistent improvement. Having to be in the great qb's of all time or HOF to be considered a franchise qb? Thats a bit much if you ask me.

To me the definition of franchise qb is somebody the team entrusts to have at the helm for the long haul barring any odd circumstances. Manning is franchise but went to Denver because Luck came along. Montana was franchise but had Young come along. Dalton, like it or not, is their franchise qb in Cincy. They have decided to build around him. Unless Tannehill does some crazy regression I can easily see the team built around him with a nasty D, better OL, and debatably better skill players go into the playoffs and win games.

Miami fans were fortunate enough to see arguably the greatest pure passer to ever play the game for 18 years. Expectations are and will always remain high for the QB position.
