Re-run Alabama Games

The ineptitude of the DL to put much pressure on the QB, particularly since Vernon left, is probably only rivaled by the OL play.

They haven’t been able to stop the run either..

If Davis can stop the run and is a project getting to the QB, im ok with that. At least for now.

What I cant stand is when we draft guys that are pass-rush specialists and they cant get to the QB. So we are left with guys that can't do what they were drafted to do, AND can't stop the run.

If we can patch up the D-line enough to be effective at stopping the run it at least gives us the opportunity to take gambles on pass-rush specialists.

Hopefully, next year we can be in position to draft the unicorn that is great at both.

Every year it was the same thing with him in the offseason - he always had plenty of excuses as to why he was underperforming. Always said he wasn't focused enough, etc... basically all the same things he said at the combine when teams were asking where his production was. I heard him say it every off season. He says he bought into the 1st round hype after his sophomore season.

He's a good run defender. He just doesn't have the tools to be a pass rusher. It's not due to anything that he isn't doing technique wise. He's had multiple defensive line coaches at Alabama have him work on numerous things. How many 6'7", 315 pound guys have you ever seen that are great pass rushers? It just doesn't happen.

He's difficult for an offensive lineman to get rid of or dominate - he's not difficult to neutralize or disallow from impacting what's going on.
Maybe Miami drafted him primarily for his run defense. This would help address a major weakness the Dolphins had in 2019. Davis is a big guy and he goes into the rotation with Wilkins and Godchaux to stuff the run up the middle, we now have decent DE's in Ogbah and Lawson to set the edge thus forcing QBs to pass.

Young Godchaux, Wilkins and Davis Competing for snaps I will always take that action over giving a guy with minimal tread on the tire at 100m

So with no sports I went through and recorded all the Re-run alabama games to watch Tua because I’m bored and super excited to have him. One thing that has shocked me watching these games was Raekwon Davis. I saw him absolutely blow up some plays and wreak havoc and was like holy crap who is that oh Raekwon Davis man we got him too. I was pleasantly surprised. Interior Defensive lineman don’t always stick out when your casually watching games but every game I watched he made at least one big wow play. He has the size, experience (4 years at Bama with a bunch of starts), and explosiveness to make an instant impact. When I think of our rookie class I think of Tua, the young OL, Iggy and sometimes forget about Davis but he could be the steal of our draft class

The main thing I see is he is so big and strong...they can’t move him.

Miami averages getting 2.5 sacks per year out of defensive lineman they've selected with top 75 picks over the past decade. The only reason it's that high is because of Olivier Vernon's outstanding production for Miami skewing the formula.

They didn't draft Cam Wake. He chose to sign with Miami coming out of the CFL.

Every time you bury your head in the sand I'll come up behind you and kick you in the ***. Miami isn't very good at drafting or winning games.
I don't think that's a stat that is very meaningful. We have drafted a few busts at DE in the top 75 picks for sure, but in the last 10-20 years we've picked up most of our DE starters in free agency. We drafted Odrick (decent but not great), Jordan (turbo bust), and Harris (bust) in terms of DEs. DTs aren't going to get many sacks a year, aside from Aaron Donald and maybe 1-2 exceptions. We drafted the depth we needed this year on the DL. Raekwon Davis should be able to get ample opportunity to prove you or me wrong though, our depth on DL was pitiful.

Ha ha that’s tbe polar opposite of what I saw from davis on that bama tape

He didn’t make flash plays in terms of sacks. But shedding blocks making tackles in the run game also plays where he didn’t necessarily make a tackle but just throwing blockers around. Weve been so bad at stopping the run and I think between him Wilkins and Godchaux we should be way better in that area

Hopefully he can squeeze the juice out...

Agreed, he’s not a quick twitch gap penetrator type guys. He has some explosion, sure, but that’s really not his game. He’s a straight up mauler type who can be a gap/double team occupier. I think he will get the chance at being a true NT.

possible, but i don't see the value of picking strictly a run stuffer in round 2

People are WAY too dialed in on stats. The games have become unbearable because the play by play guy can't stop spouting needless stats the entire game. When down by 7 or less going into the 4th quarter the Dolphins are 2-3 against teams with winning records at home. WHAT??? Why do I have to know that?? It's 3rd and 5 and the play is happening but on and on it goes and it's endless because every minute more stats are invented. It's out of control. Of course, now, with no sports and no football I'll gladly talk stats!!
