No one can dispute that Ellerbe had a bad overall 2013 season, and is overpaid. Also that we do need a cover ILB in the worst way. This may sound crazy to some but, after looking at available options, he very well ay be he best one.

In 2013 he allowed 34of 53 completions for 7.7 average, a QBR of 73, with 2 picks and 4 PD's. Top FA's McCain or Sikes, along with Misi are close to that. I'm also thinking he will be better vs the run with a big body at DT.

Cap wise, we save $5.6M in cutting him but take a $4.2M hit. I cannot see getting anyone better for the $5,6 savings, and have to consider re-doing his deal or, even keeping him as is because of no better options.

Interesting thought....but what about his durability issues? We need guys to be on the field, and he has struggled there. I think I would cut him and see what else might be available either in FA or the draft.

But if he's on the roster he is counting $9.8m, and he just isn't worth it. The could designate him a post June 1 cut and free up more money if they wanted. Although it wouldn't help them in early free agency it would allow them to wait until after the draft and the free agency signing spree is over. It would be nice to see what Tripp can do and I thought Sheppard played well in his only start.

I would love to see them get Stephone Anthony in the draft. I think by year two he can take over the spot.

Without even getting into the money portion, and just talking about skill set and ability, Ellerbe does not make this team better. Now factor in the $9.8 million salary and its not even worth discussing.

plus the guy had bursted hips....

I think that both Ellerbe and Wheeler are probably gone and we wear the dead cap.
Ellerbe was played out of position in year 1 and then went to IR in game 1 of this year. He was ridiculously overpaid but really didn't get much of a chance to show what he could offer. If he's healthy he could still be a decent player.

Name him.

+1.

Perryman is really the only top MIKE prospect and he is far from a 3 down player.

Give me Shaq at OLB and I would be happy. Doesn't fix the MIKE, but its a start.... :idk:

I am not saying that he is a GREAT option, just the best one I see available.

i'll rethink things after i cut him and wheeler both

move on miami

Honestly at a paycut we could take a worse chance than Ellerbe. But swap out his $5.6m out and you could sign basically any FA MLB out there.

I agree but, the problem is with who is out there.

Is he really any different than Misi? Other than his inflated contract.

In coverage, absolutely.

Who are you seeing as a better option for this year?
