Im definitly not giving up on the season. But with all the draft this person threads, i might as well talk about the draft a little bit. But we have some wholes to fill this offseason...

OLine and QB is the obvious ones...but with our Defensive problems and young talent on offense, what about DT-S-CB? so im gonna talk about some of these players.......

CB Jimmy Williams

This CB from Virginia Tech could get a nice and long look from us. Hes big, strong, fast, smart, very athletic for his safety size body, and very importantly he can tackle. With guys like Sam Madison at CB who cannot provide any help on run support, and CB like Jimmy Williams would be refreshing. Yes i like Poole, and i like Daniels, but Poole hasnt been able to do much because of injury, and Daniels is still a 4th round rookie. Anyways, depth at CB is never to deep, proof is in Howard, our #3 CB who gets picked on all game...also Sam Madison could become a cap casuality after this season, hes still good, but hes not playing up to what he is being paid.

NT Haloti Ngata

Keith Traylor has played good for us this year at times, clogging the running lanes when in. But hes on a 1 year contract, and he isnt getting younger. Ngata would be a perfect fit to play NT in Sabans 3-4 defensive alignment. Ngata is a HUGE Junior Defensive Tackle from the University of Oregon, listed at around 6'5 338 pounds depending on the site. Along with his big body hes extremely strong physically. Hes got great athleticism and agility for a man of that size. Hes still a little raw, and sometimes trys to just use his strength to much. But he would be an instant starter on the DLine and in the mold of New England's NT and former UM grad Vince Wilfork.

DT Rodrique Wright

Rod Wright is a DT our of Texas. He would of been a first round pick last year had he came out. Hes got all kinds of talent. At 6'5 305, he might be best fit to play the DE position in the 3-4. Hes very quick for a defensive tackle. He has the talent to blow up a play, but also can pull the disappearing act. To go along with DE Kevin Carter, they could be a very disruptive pair our there.

SS Darnell Bing

Bing is a big time safety out of the USC. Bing has a huge frame in the mould of Sean Taylor of the Redskins. An Safety in a LBs body. Hes big and fast at 6'2 220. He loves to add some run support in his game, loves to make the big hit, and is a good tackler. Hes always around the ball and will most likely be an All-Pro SS at some point in his career if he can stay healthy, which has been his biggest problem of his college career. With Tebucy Jones Injury and lack of big plays, and the fact that Lance Shulters and Yeremiah Bell are free agents after this year, Bing would look good a Miami uniform as a big play safety.

FS LaRon Landry

This is a very good FS out of LSU, so Nick Saban probably knows him extremely well. He lead the Tigers in tackles in both his Freshman and Sophmore year. At 6'2 204 Landry is known as a "Ferocious hitter with a knack for finding the football". For the same reasons as Bing, Lance Shulters and Yeremiah Bell are free agents after this year, Landry would look good a Miami uniform as a big play safety.

There are many more defensive prospects at the positions i listed that include S/CB Michael Huff, DT Claude Wroten, DT Jesse Mahelona, CB Jason Allen(who is out for the season with injury), or S Bernard Pollard...etc....that are possibilities, but the ones i listed i believe are the best at their positions at this point.

I've been saying, if we get a good QB in FA then we should look towards the defense in the draft. Out of the players on there I like Jimmy Williams and Laron Landry the most. Laron Landry is an all around player, he is great in his tackling technique (I've never seen him miss a one on one tackle), and is a ballhawk, something we lack. On the other hand, Jimmy Williams is a beast. Teams are so afraid of him that no one passes his way. And when I say no one, I mean no one. DUring the Maryland game, they through towards Williams once, and it was a pass that sailed out of bounds. Either of these guys would be HUGE to get.

I know that this is a long shot, but take a look at Mathias Kiwanuka (DE) and Mario Williams (DE). Two animals on the defensive line, and could easily be the heir apparent to JT's spot. Obviosly JT isnt going to be around forever, as he is already 30 years old, and Kevin Carter and Vonnie Holliday arent young either. I know their are bigger needs, but the DE position (besides JT) isnt getting much pressure.

i'd love to have any of those, although bing is overrated. ngata will be a pro bowler for a while

yes, but i dont think Kiwanuka fits the OE nor the DE position in the 3-4 alignment, but thats just my opinion. But i think if Mario Williams put on a lil weight, he could be a good DE in the 3-4.

I really like Jimmy Williams. Do you guys think Manny and Vickerson will be good next year? At the corners we have Poole coming back and Daniels has showed promise. On the end I'm still not writing off Roth. Safety will be a need. We still have alot of cap next year I don't know if their is any young talent out their but I would resign Lance and maybe pick another up.

Their is a DE for Carolina named Brown. The heels have always put out good DE's like Peppers, Greg Ellis, Ekuban and a couple others. He gave Dbrickashaw Furguson fits yesterday. I haven't seen anyone go head to head with him and do that well he could be a steal in the later rounds. Carolina won 7-5 by the way.

havnet heard much about him. but i know hes a junior, and a little undersized, so he will stay for his senior year most likely.

UVA noseguard no 64. Good player forgot his name.

Pat Watkins from FSU.

I like Jimmy Williams, but you have to remember we get Poole and Mitchell back next year and both of them have alot of potential and can be very good. Thats why I wouldn't take a CB with our first pick. I still think QB is the way to go and spend on O-line in FA, and other than that I think we need to address safety, OLB, DT, and WR early.

Good writeup. I still believe that we should be looking at OL first. See my mock, which I have to update. S and CB are a growing concern, I think we may be able to sweak by with the LB's we have this year, DT is a concern if Zgonina and Traylor leave as well.

We can't not take a QB on day one. We need a QB of the future here. And I still don't think we should go CB with the first pick because we will be getting Poole and Mitchell next year. I wouldn't mind signing someone though.

Yes we can, besides Matt Leinart, the talent level of the QB's drops tremendously, unless Quinn leaves early, which I believe he will not, there is no point in grabbing a QB higher than we should. Establish the O-line first before we grab the QB of the future because without a solid line the QB will fail miserably regardless of his talents.

Edit: I figured I would also explain my mock draft while I was at it.

Updated Mock Draft (10/24):
1st round: Jimmy Williams CB (Poole, Daniels and Madison will all be back next year, Howard will not, replace him the the most talented CB in the draft. If anyone hasn't noticed teams have been able to pass like crazy against us, we need help)
2nd round: Daryn Colledge OT (I don't believe that after Winston and Brick there is another OT with more upside than Colledge, we HAVE to create an O-line first before we grab the QB of the future)
3rd round: Jason Avent WR (Chambers and Booker have been average, Boston has been non existant, Welker has been a relief yet probably needs to be a 3rd or 4th reciever regardless, the lineup next year? Chambers, Booker, Avent, Welker, Gilmore)
4th round: Kyle Williams DT (You really didn't think Saban would not take a player from LSU in the draft did you? To the Webster there is Daniels, to the Wroten there is Williams)
5th round: Manny Wright DT (supp.)
6th round: Cleo Lemon QB (trade)
7th round: Leon Williams ILB (adding some youth to the LB position may be increased in importance if Seau retires soon)
7th round: Chijioke Onyenegecha CB (he's the kind of CB that can help challenge for that last spot on the roster)
7th round: Jarvis Herring S (Jones, Shulters, Bell, Tillman, Shulters could leave via FA even if he doesn't adding some depth wouldn't hurt)
7th round: Matt Lentz OG (again adding depth to a very pourous O-line, great depth guy for Jeno and Hadnot)

FA pickups:
C-LeCharles Bentley
QB-Jon Kitna
