Some are still questioning our cap space to sign FA. Here's what we would save on moves being discussed, including bonus, salary and dead money.

Ellerbe-$25.1M over 3 years

Wheeler- $172M

Wallace- $39.5

Fields- $7.9M over 2 years.

That's $90M over 3 years to spend from these cuts alone.

Wallace is too valuable to cut this year - maybe next year when whoever we draft steps up to take over. Fields is too valuable to not push for a restructure. Those other bums can go to the unemployment office for all I care.

Don't forget Starks and his $5 million in potential savings.

Haven't we already said we were cutting Fields?

We will if he doesn't agree to a restructure by 4:00PM today. One of the local articles forgot to mention that detail, a restructure could happen.

Wallace isn't going anywhere, we need him and we save practically nothing if we cut him this year. Other three and starks, well see ya later!!

I'd prefer to keep Starks, extend him, and cut his cap hit. He's getting older but is still productive, and bringing him back at a contract similar to Mitchells would solidify the DT rotation.

If Wallace stays this year, deduct $12M off the cap space for 3 years.

I did not include Starks as he only has a deal for this year. I also did not include $40M in cap space next year, the $6.6M in dead space we get back next year, projected $10M increases for 2016 and 2017 or, what we may do with Wake and Grimes next year.

All in all, it's a TON of money.

post june 1st we save but that dont help us now

We still need to be responsible, we still need to draft well and be smart with our "smaller" free agent pickups.

But yea, we have money to do deals and extend players.

People crap on Dawn Aponte . . . she is very well respected around the league for how she manages the cap. It just never looks great when you have a poor 2013 like we did. The fact that we can cut bait with that year and still sign guys like Suh, Albert and go hard after Randall Cobb speaks volumes on her ability to "make it work"

The biggest reason I'm not worried is that we just got out of a bunch of bad contracts without having our cap money completely tied up. When it comes to the salary cap our front office deserves a lot of credit for having the flexibility to re-work the roster, and I have faith that the contracts they are signing going forward will also be structured in such a way that they aren't up a creek without a paddle if a player doesn't produce as expected.

Agreed. Some are just looking at his year and the BIG numbers without looking at the overall space for the next 3 years for this team and the players we have.

Like KDawg noted above what's important going forward is that we continue drafting well, and identifying lesser FA and college FA that contribute as well. IMHO the roster is in relatively good shape with strengths at many positions.
