Still Perfect.. and You're Not.
The stage was set; Monday Night Prime Time and the media especially the four letter network tried to set this game as a coming out party for Mark Sanches however he was outplayed by another young Quarterback, Chad Henne.
While it was too early to create a bust in Canton for Henne you can not helped to be impressed by the performance that Henne had in front of the world. Henne complete 20 of 26 passes for 241 yards and 2 TD's. Those stats aren't overwhelmingly impressive but it was the way he did it that impressed me. It's been a long search since the great #13 retired and we have endless players that haven't paned out. Chad Pennington was great last year but the front office wanted him to be a stop-gap until Henne could develop.Henne had a great pocket presence and had agreat pocket mobility. He is poised, he is confident, and the dude has an arm that we haven't seen here in a very long time. He made big time throws and he amde those throws when it mattered. The two throws that he made to Camarillo were money and in fact there are pnly a handful of Quarterback's that will make that move. Henne's QB Rating of 130.4 was higher than Drew Brees and Tom Bradys combined rating against the Jets this year. When the Jets offense punched our defense in the mouth Henne didn't stumble he answered. As they ween Henne off the training wheels he is going to get better and better and that "potential" we heard so much about is coming to life. I live in here and Baltimore and have seen first hand what a young successful Quarterback can do for a town. This town loves Joe Flaccoand I think we have the same thing in Mr. Henne
In my preview of this game I said Ronnie Brown was the best player on the field for this game and he didn't fail to deliver. He cuaght the ball, he threw the balls, and he ran the rock. Ronnie's vision has improved leaps and bounds since Tony Sparano took over this club. Ronnie Brown is an elite player; he has become a touchdown machine who just doesn't go down on the first hit. The story of Ricky Williams in the NFL has been a roller coaster with many turns. I recently wrote a column saying that his road to redemption hasn't won me back over.... Well I lied. Ricky Williams was my favorite player the day we traded for him and when he quit on me it hurt more than Becky Myers dumping me after 5 years of dating. I watched this man run harder, run quicker, run stronger than he ever has last time. He fought for yards and made big plays combining for over 130 yards of offense. This combination of Ricky and Ronnie is lethal and I truly believe that Ricky Williams could start for half the teams in this league. Loushaka Polite was excellant last night. I loved when he lit Bart Scott up.
Our offensive line was dominant last night. I was worried after Week 1 when the Falcons ate us up and thought to myself has Jake Long hit this rookie wall? The Jets defense and their blitz schemes are no easy task and I don't even think they touched Chad Henne all night. Jake Long is dominant as a run blocker and is getting better at pass protection. I have watched a lot of Joe Thomas from Cleveland this year to compare and for my money Jake Long is a better player. The right side of the line with Vernon Carey and Donald Thomas really created so nice lanes. Jake Grove had two penalties and missed a couple blocks on Kris Jenkins but overall he had a very good night. There is no question that our offensive line has a "I am going to kick your ***" attitude.
We need help at the Wide Receiver position but Greg Camarillo made some very nice plays down the stretch. Ted Ginn Jr. made one play but it wasa good one and it also gets me feeling really good. Ginn ran a beautiful double move on Revis for a 53 yard score. Ginn absolutly toasted Revis who is a top tier corner in this league.
The Wild-Cat isn't going anywhere for a long time..in fact it's going to become more dangerous. We know how effective the Wild-Cat is with Ronnie Brown at the helm or even Ricky Williams but Pat White was thrown into the fire last night and made a big first down run. He was only out there for two plays but we trusted him enough to put him out there when it mattered most. I wouldn't expect to see more of the Pat White Wild-Cat against the Saints.
Things we need to improve is our pass rash as I think Porter and JT struggled yesterday against a good line. Gibril Wilson needs to play better. Our young corners will get better and they are learning. Sean Smith made a terrific pass break up on the sidelines. We also need someone who can return kicks passed the 20 yard line but I am not going to look at the bad now however because analyze that during the bye week but let's look at what Chad Henne does for this team....
*He makes Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams better because defenses canot load the box to stop the run
*He gives us the ability to utilize the talent of Ted Ginn Jr. and we saw that connection last night. Ginn's speed is now relevant with Henne at the helm.
*He makes the National Media respect the Dolphins. Every sports station or chanel I turn to has someone talking about good Chad Henne and how good the Wild-Cat is. We deserve the respect.
Let's take a quick look around the league....
* The Colts are good. The Titans are not. Peyton is playing MVP football again and when they can get Bob Sanders back I think this team is the class of the NFL
*The Bengals upset the Ravens in Baltimore. Mike Zimmer deserves the game-ball for that one after everything he went through. We saw the greatness that is Ed Reed strike again but in the end Carson Palmer led to Bengals to a WIN.
*The Bills/Browns game might be the worst game ever played. I mean Derek Anderson completed two passes all game. Dick Jauron it was nice knowing you.
*The Raiders are a joke. The Giants are for real. Mario Manningham and Steve Smith have really developed into good targets for Eli Manning. The Raiders are a pure example of what drafting players based off the combine and not based off tape can do to your team. Jamarcus Russell, Darren McFadden, Robert Gallery, and Darrius Heyward Bey were all major reaches and that's why the Raiders are a joke.
*The Buccaneers and Rams are terrible teams and both might not win a game this season. Both teams were completely blown out of the stadium. The Vikings are for real especially with Jared Allen playing Defensive Player of the Year Football. Didn't I call that?
*The Chiefs gave the Cowboys a fight but allowed Miles Austin to break two sure thing tackles to take in the game winning score. Tony Romo is not an elite Quarterback.
*How did the Jaguars lose by the score of 41-0 to the Seahawks? I know Matt Hassleback came back are you kidding me?
*The Steelers haven't made it look pretty but they are 2-2 without Troy Polamalu and they play the Browns which should equate to a victory Sunday. The Lions are showing a lot of fight.
*Am I crazy to still think the Broncos are a fluke at 5-0? I really still think they are. I just don't think the Patsies are as good as advertised. Tomy Brady looks average.
Until next Week..... In Henne we trust!
